This timeline of the Tigray War is part of a Wikt:chronology, chronology of the military engagements of the Tigray War, a civil war that began in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia in early November 2020. Pre-war preparations Tigray In 2018, Ethiopia's ruling coalition(Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, EPRDF), which includes Tigray People's Liberation Front, TPLF among four other parties, elected Abiy Ahmed as its new chairman, filling the gap that had been left when Hailemariam Desalegn of the Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement, SEPDM announced his resignation. After being sidelined by Abiy, TPLF leaders retreated to their home region in northern Ethiopia. Not only the TPLF, but even the Tigray branch of Abiy's own Prosperity Party expressed fears about an Eritrean invasion, already on 19 February 2020. Getachew Reda
Getachew Reda Kahsay ( Tigrinya and Amharic: ጌታቸው ረዳ ካሕሳይ; born June 1974) is an Ethiopian politician who is serving as the Minister Advisor for East African Affairs. Before this role, he served as the Chief Administrator of the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray, following his appointment by the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia on 23 March 2023. Before assuming power as chief administrator, he was a longtime advisor to the former president of the Tigray Region, Debretsion Gebremichael. Getachew was also an executive committee member and the spokesperson for the Tigray People's Liberation Front. Mesfin Hagos (born 1947) is an Eritrean who was one of the founding members of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF). In government, he was the Eritrean Minister of Defense during the 1990s. After repression by president Isaias Afwerki against Mesfin's colleagues, Mesfin fled Eritrea in 2001 and sought political asylum in Germany in 2013, where he lived . Bishoftu
Bishoftu (; ) is a town in central Ethiopia. Located in the East Shewa Zone of the Oromia Region, it sits at an elevation of 1,920 metres (6,300 ft). It was formerly known as Debre Zeyit (). The town serves as the primary airbase of the Ethiopian Air Force. Bishoftu is located southeast of Addis Ababa along its route 4 highway. It is a resort town, known for its several lakes.
