The 2004–05 Australian region cyclone season was a near-average season with eleven tropical cyclonesAn average tropical cyclone season contains thirteen tropical cyclone/ref> occurring within the Australian region south of the equator and from 90th meridian east, 90°E to 160th meridian east, 160°E. The season officially ran from 1 November 2004 to 30 April 2005 with pre-season Tropical Cyclone Phoebe forming on 1 September and an unnamed tropical cyclone dissipating on 15 April. This is the period of the year when most tropical cyclones form within the Australian region. During the season at least five people were killed from tropical disturbances while overall damage was estimated at $ (2005 USD; $  USD). Severe Tropical Cyclone Harvey caused an estimated $ (2005 USD; $  USD) in damage in Northern Territory when it made landfall in February. Severe Tropical Cyclone Ingrid was a powerful tropical cyclone which struck northern Australia during the 2004–05 Australian region cyclone season. Its minimum pressure was 924 mbar (hPa). Meteorological history Originally a low-pressure system north of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Ingrid moved eastward and developed into a tropical cyclone in the Coral Sea on 6 March 2005. A strong pressure gradient rapidly developed within the system as it headed west resulting in a category rating of 5 by 8 March. The eye, with very destructive wind gusts up to 220 km/h within a 20 km radius, reached the far northern coast of the Australian state of Queensland between 6am and 9am on 10 March 2005 AEST, and hit the Cape York Peninsula. However, it was downgraded to a Category 2 storm as it crossed the peninsula north of the towns of Coen and Lockhart River.
