''The Bastards'' () is a 2007 Romanian drama film directed by Șerban Marinescu. It is about the upper echelons of Romanian politics. Synopsis Didi Sfiosu, nicknamed "Hero of the Barricade", is a former revolutionary who serves as key advisor to the Romanian President. Dandu Patricianul is a wealthy businessman who has financed the ruling political Party at the last electoral campaign, but now is alleged to support the opposition. Mister Pompi is Romanian Prime Minister, with the help of a clever advisor named Pejbeanu and a former "Securitate Agent" named Romanescu, controls and spies upon Patricianu's moves. He discovers a plot that involves Patricianu himself, an opposition senator and the ambitious and powerful General Dorobandu. Helped by an up-and-coming reporter, they want to prove that corruption has reached the cabinet, in order to turn the tide of public opinion and to propose the general as the next Chief of state. Mitică Popescu
Mitică Popescu (; 2 December 1936 – 3 January 2023) was a Romanian actor. Biography Popescu was born in Bucharest on 2 December 1936. He started his studies in the mid-1950s at the Institute of Theatrical and Cinematographic Art, but he was arrested by the Securitate in 1958, allegedly for planning to flee the country, and was sentenced to 3 years of prison. First detained at Malmaison Prison in Bucharest, he was transferred to Jilava Prison, and then to the labor camps at Periprava and Salcia on the Danube. Upon release, Radu Beligan and helped him find a job at , and in 1963 he resumed his acting studies. After graduating in 1967, he worked at Teatrul Tineretului in Piatra Neamț, where he stayed until 1973, when he transferred to in Bucharest, on whose stage he played until 2010. Ștefan Iordache
Ștefan Iordache (; 3 February 1941 – 14 September 2008) was a Romanian actor. Born in Calafat, Dolj County, he spent his childhood there before moving to the Rahova neighborhood of Bucharest. He failed being admitted into medical school, worked for a while as an accountant, and then enrolled in the I.L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Film Arts (IATC). In 2000, Iordache was awarded the National Order of Faithful Service, Officer rank. In 2006, he was voted the best actor in Romania. He died of leukemia, aged 67, in Vienna, Austria, and was buried with military honors in Gruiu, Ilfov County. Gheorghe Dinică (; 1 January 1934 – 10 November 2009) was a Romanian actor. Career Dinică showed an early interest in acting, being part of different amateur theater troupes since he was 17. In 1957, he entered The National Institute of Theatre and Cinematography Art in Bucharest.
