Thunder Bay—Atikokan (provincial Electoral District)
Thunder Bay—Atikokan is a provincial electoral district (Canada), electoral district in northwestern Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1999. The electoral district was created from Port Arthur (provincial electoral district), Port Arthur, Fort William (provincial electoral district), Fort William, Lake Nipigon (electoral district), Lake Nipigon and Rainy River (electoral district), Rainy River in 1999 when Ontario was divided into the same electoral districts as those used for federal electoral purposes. They were redistributed whenever a readjustment took place at the federal level. In 2005, legislation was passed by the Legislature to divide Ontario into 107 electoral districts, beginning with the next provincial election in 2007. A referendum was held on October 10, 2007, on the question of whether to establish a mixed member proportional representation (MMP) system for elections to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The vote was strongly in favour of the existing plurality voting system, plurality voting or first-past-the-post (FPTP) system. Lyn McLeod (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 2003. McLeod was a cabinet minister in the Liberal government of David Peterson from 1987 to 1990, and served as leader of the Ontario Liberal Party from 1992 to 1996. John Rafferty (Canadian Politician)
John Rafferty (July 3, 1953 – June 30, 2019) was a Canadian politician, who served as the Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay—Rainy River from 2008 to 2015 for the NDP. Rafferty was previously the party's candidate in Thunder Bay—Superior North for the 2000 federal election, in Thunder Bay—Rainy River for the 2004 and 2006 federal elections, and in Thunder Bay—Atikokan in the 2003 and 2007 provincial elections. Provincially, he lost to incumbent MPP Bill Mauro by a margin of just 50 votes in 2007. Rafferty was born in Wingham, Ontario. Rainy River (electoral District)
Rainy River was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Ontario, which returned one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1908 to 1999. The district was created in 1908 from part of the former district of Port Arthur and Rainy River, and comprised much of the Rainy River District.
