Thuin ( or ; ) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. The municipality consists of the following districts: Biercée, Biesme-sous-Thuin, Donstiennes, Gozée, Leers-et-Fosteau, Ragnies, Thuillies, and Thuin (including the hamlets of Hourpes and Maladrie. Thuin is the headquarters of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (International Canine Association). The earliest name of the settlement, ''Thudinium Castellum'', referring to a Roman fortification, is found on a 9th-century offering in Lobbes Abbey, which lists various neighbouring towns and related tithe duties. Hainaut ( , also , ; ; ; ; ), historically also known as Heynault in English, is the westernmost province of Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. Fédération Cynologique Internationale
The (; FCI; ) is the largest international federation of national kennel clubs and purebred registries. The FCI is based in Thuin, Belgium and has 98 members and contract partners (one from each country). History The FCI was founded in 1911 under the auspices of the kennel clubs of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Its objective was to bring global uniformity to the breeding, exhibiting and judging of pure-bred dogs. It was disbanded in World War I and recreated in 1921 by Belgium and France. Since its foundation the FCI's membership has grown to include kennel clubs from the majority of countries worldwide, with members in Europe as well as Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania. Hourpes is a hamlet of Wallonia in the municipality and district of Thuin, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It is situated near the river Sambre about north east of Thuin Thuin ( or ; ) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It is about above sea level, and has its own railway station (''Gare de Hourpes''), which it is located about outside the hamlet. A notable building in the hamlet is the Château de Hourpes built about 1887, it was purchased and renovated in the 21st century allegedly using money from a Value Added Tax (VAT) fraud. Adalbert (c. 1000 – 11 November 1048) was the Duke of Upper Lorraine from 1047 until his death the next year. Godfrey III, Duke Of Lower Lorraine
Godfrey III ( – 1069), called the Bearded, was the eldest son of Gothelo I, Duke of Upper and Lower Lorraine. Biography Disputed succession By inheritance, Godfrey was Count of Verdun and he became Margrave of Antwerp as a vassal of the Duke of Lower Lorraine. The Holy Roman Emperor Henry III authorized him to succeed his father as Duke of Upper Lorraine in 1044, but refused him the ducal title in Lower Lorraine, for he feared the power of a united duchy. Instead, Henry threatened to appoint his younger brother, Gothelo, as Duke in Lower Lorraine. At a much later date, Godfrey became Duke of Lower Lorraine, but he had lost the upper duchy by that point in time.
