Thousand Islands Bridge
The Thousand Islands International Bridge () is an American-maintained international bridge system over the Saint Lawrence River connecting northern New York in the United States with southeastern Ontario in Canada. Constructed in 1937, with additions in 1959, the bridges span the Canada–US border in the middle of the Thousand Islands region. All bridges in the system carry two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, with pedestrian sidewalks. Structure The Thousand Islands International Bridge system is a series of five bridges spanning the St. Lawrence River. King's Highway 137, commonly referred to as Highway 137, is a Ontario Provincial Highway Network, provincially maintained highway in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Ontario that connects the northern end of Interstate 81 in New York, Interstate 81 in the U.S. state of New York (state), New York with Highway 401 via the Canadian span of the Thousand Islands Bridge. While this road connected to the international bridge when it opened in August 1938, it was not designated as a King's Highway until 1965. Cape Vincent, New York
Cape Vincent is a town in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 2,765 at the 2020 census. The town is in the northwestern part of the county. In the town is a village also called Cape Vincent. Both town and village are northwest of Watertown. History The town was first explored in the 17th century by French explorers and missionaries. At that time, it was home to the Onondaga people. Modern settlement began in 1801 at Millens Bay. During the War of 1812, Cape Vincent served as an armed camp to oppose the British forces in adjacent Kingston, Ontario. The town was formed in 1849 from the north part of the town of Lyme. Gananoque ( ) is a town in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville of Ontario, Canada. Alexandria Bay is a village in Jefferson County, New York, United States, within the town of Alexandria. It is located in the Thousand Islands region of northern New York. The population of the village was 1,078 at the 2010 United States census. It lies near the Thousand Islands Border Crossing of Canada and the United States. History Settlement began around 1817. By 1836, the community had about 25 dwellings. The George C. Electronic toll collection (ETC) is a wireless system to automatically collect the usage fee or Road pricing, toll charged to vehicles using toll roads, HOV lanes, toll bridges, and toll tunnels. It is a faster alternative which is replacing Toll house, toll booths, where vehicles must stop and the driver manually pays the toll with cash or a card. In most cases, vehicles using the system are equipped with an automated radio transponder device. When the vehicle passes a roadside toll reader device, a radio signal from the reader triggers the transponder, which transmits back an identifying number which registers the vehicle's use of the road, and an electronic payment system charges the user the toll. A major advantage is the driver does not have to stop, reducing traffic delays. Electronic tolling is cheaper than a staffed toll booth, reducing transaction costs for government or private road owners. E-ZPass Interagency Group (E-ZPass Group trade name and E-ZPass product brand) is an electronic toll collection system used on toll roads, toll bridges, and toll tunnels in the eastern half of the United States. The group itself is composed of several states' member agencies, which share the same technology and allow travelers to use the same transponder on toll facilities throughout the network.
