Thomas Stephens (Jesuit)
Thomas Stephens Society of Jesus, SJ ( – 1619) was an English Society of Jesus, Jesuit Catholic priesthood, priest, missionary, writer, and linguist of Marathi language, Marathi and Konkani language, Konkani in Portuguese India. Educated at University of Oxford, Oxford, he was one of the earliest Western Christian missionaries to early modern India. He, along with Roberto de Nobili, helped in converting the top class of Indian society by adopting local practices and writing books in local languages, to appeal to the local people. He is famous for having written the ''Krista Purana'' (Story of Christ) laid down in meters of bhakti poetry. Bushton, Wiltshire
Bushton is an English Hamlet (place), hamlet about south of Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire. It belongs to the civil parish of Clyffe Pypard. History In 1086, the Domesday Book recorded an estate at Bushton, held by the Bishop of Winchester. By the 17th century the manor of Bushton had become a tithing of Clyffe Pypard parish. Manor Farmhouse is a Georgian architecture, Georgian house of five Bay (architecture), bays built of brick with stone trim in the early 18th century. Woodhill Park, near Bushton, is a Georgian English country house, country house built in the 18th century. Richard Pace (Lechlade), Richard Pace added the south-east range in 1804. Salcete
Salcete or Salcette (Konkani: ''Saxtti''/''Xaxtti'') is a subdivision of the district of South Goa, in the state of Goa, situated by the west coast of India. The Sal River and its backwaters dominate the landscape of Salcete. Historically, the sixty-six settlements south of the Zuari River formed the original Salcette territory. Salcete forms a part of the bigger Konkan region that stretches along the western shoreline of peninsular India. In erstwhile Portuguese Goa, the Salcette ''concelho'' (county) located in the '' Velhas Conquistas'' (Old Conquests) was co-terminous with the undivided Salcette territory ( Mormugao and Salcete ''talukas''). Uday Laxmikant Bhembre (born 27 December 1939) is an Indian lawyer, Konkani language, Konkani writer and politician who served as member of the Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly, representing the Margao Assembly constituency from 1984 to 1989. He is noted for his role as the editor of the Konkani language, Konkani daily, ''Sunaparant'', and as a Konkani language activist. Bhembre is also widely known as the lyricist of the famed Goan Konkani language song "Channeache Rati".
