Theobald Butler, 14th Baron Dunboyne
Theobald Fitzwalter Butler, 14th Baron Dunboyne (11 February 1806 – 22 March 1881) was an Irish peer. He was the son of James Butler, 13th Baron Dunboyne by his first wife, Eleanor O'Connell. On 6 July 1850, he succeeded to his father's titles as the 14th and 24th Baron Dunboyne. His right to the title was confirmed by the House of Lords on 10 August 1860. Dunboyne was elected as an Irish representative peer in 1868, and sat on the Conservative benches in the Lords until his death. He married Julia Celestina Maria Brander, daughter of William Brander, on 14 November 1832. Volume 90 (1857), p.217. Together they had seven children. The House of Lords is the upper house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. List Of Irish Representative Peers
This is a list of representative peers elected from the Peerage of Ireland to sit in the British House of Lords after the Kingdom of Ireland was brought into union with the Kingdom of Great Britain. No new members were added to the House after 1919, due to the creation of the Irish Free State, however, the already sitting members continued to remain part of the House, with the last member dying in 1961. Once elected, peers held their seats for life. Some of these peers were granted a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom which gave them a hereditary seat in the House of Lords. These peers also remained as representative peers and were not replaced until their deaths. William Parsons, 3rd Earl Of Rosse
William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse (17 June 1800 – 31 October 1867), was an English engineer and astronomer. He built several giant telescopes. His 72-inch telescope, built in 1845 and colloquially known as the "Leviathan of Parsonstown", was the world's largest telescope, in terms of aperture size, until the early 20th century. From April 1807 until February 1841, he was styled as Baron Oxmantown. Life He was born in York, England, the son of Sir Lawrence Parsons, later 2nd Earl of Rosse, and Alice Lloyd. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating with first-class honours in mathematics in 1822. He inherited an earldom and a large estate in King's County (now County Offaly) in Ireland when his father, Lawrence, 2nd Earl of Rosse, died in February 1841. James Bernard, 4th Earl Of Bandon
James Francis Bernard, 4th Earl of Bandon, KP (12 September 1850 – 18 May 1924), was a British Deputy Lieutenant in Ireland and Irish representative peer. Bernard was a cousin of the Earl of Midleton, who was head of the southern Irish Unionist Alliance at the time of the Anglo-Irish War, 1919–21. Estate He reorganised his various County Cork estates by way of settlement in 1876 and further in 1895 and 1896 including the mortgaging of the lands to his agents Richard Wheeler Doherty, and the appointment of George and John Jones and Doherty as his attorneys. He was appointed High Sheriff of County Cork for 1875. He owned 40,000 acres in County Cork. Baron Dunboyne
Baron Dunboyne was a title first held by the Petit family some time after the Norman invasion of Ireland. History Dunboyne was part of the Lordship of Meath. The Petit family also had land holdings in Mullingar. In 1227, Ralph Petit became Bishop of Meath. In that capacity, he founded a priory of the Blessed Virgin in Mullingar and he endowed this establishment with the townland of Kilbraynan (or Kilbrena) in Dunboyne, along with the rectory of Dunboyne, its tithes and other ecclesiastical revenues. A century later, Thomas Butler, son of Theobald Butler, 4th Chief Butler of Ireland, married Sinolda, heiress of William le Petit. In 1324, Butler was created Baron Dunboyne by prescription. In this way, the Dunboyne properties and titles passed to the Butlers. In 1541, the barony was created by patent in the Peerage of Ireland.
