The Starting Line
The Starting Line is an American pop-punk band formed in Churchville, Pennsylvania, Churchville, Pennsylvania in 1999. They are currently based in Philadelphia. History Early years (1999–2001) In 1999, the band that would become The Starting Line was initiated when guitarist Matt Watts, from his Connecticut dorm room, sent out emails to people from the AOL member directory who had similar bands in their profiles. He sent out many emails including one vocalist/bassist Kenny Vasoli. It asked if the 14-year-old Vasoli, who was at that time in a band called Smash Adams, was interested in "Jamming and shit", as the message title read. Kenny was the only person to respond to Matt's emails. Only a few weeks later, Vasoli found himself rehearsing with his future band-mates Watts, guitarist Mike Golla and drummer Tom Gryskewicz. Warped Tour
The Warped Tour is a Concert tour, touring Rock music, rock music festival that toured the United States and Canada each summer from 1995 until 2019, and returned in 2025 for its 30th anniversary. By 2015, Warped was the largest traveling music festival in the United States and the longest-running touring music festival in North America. Internationally, the festival stopped in Australia from 1998–2002 and again in 2013, as well as the United Kingdom in 2012 and 2015. ''Say It Like You Mean It'' is the debut studio album by American rock band the Starting Line, following their debut EP '' With Hopes of Starting Over...''. It was released on July 16, 2002. Background Guitarist Matt Watts and drummer Mike Golla met while at a mutual friend's band practice. They formed their own band and started searching for a vocalist. The pair looked through AOL's member directory and emailed a number of people. They came across Kenny Vasoli, and subsequently met him while he was playing with his own band. He was drafted into Watts and Golla's band, which broke up after a week. The members remained in contact, and formed the Starting Line in mid-1999 under the name Sunday Drive. Drummer Tom Gryskiewitz was brought into the fold after him and Watts met at a restaurant. Golla subsequently moved to guitar. They wrote material in their practice space and tracked demos. It featured four original songs, two of which later reappeared on their full-length album '' Say It Like You Mean It'', and a cover of Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now". In November 2005, a sixth song from the recording session surfaced, titled "Song for Her". The acoustic guitar driven song had been cut from the CD for reasons unknown, but was ultimately released online on the band's PureVolume profile.
