The Sonics
The Sonics are an American garage rock band from Tacoma, Washington, that formed in 1960. Their aggressive, hard-edged sound has been a major influence on Punk rock, punk and Garage rock, garage music worldwide, and they have been named inspirations to the White Stripes, LCD Soundsystem, Nirvana (band), Nirvana, The Hives, and other musical artists. The band performed several early rock standards such as "Louie, Louie", and "Skinny Minnie" as well as original compositions like "Strychnine", "Psycho", and "The Witch (song), The Witch". Their catalogue is generally based around simple chord progressions, often performed with a speed and tonal aggression that was novel for the time, making the band a notable influence on later punk rock bands, such as the Stooges and the Cramps. Ypsigrock is a contemporary music festival held annually in August in the city of Castelbuono, Italy. Castelbuono is located in the Sicily, Sicilian province of Province of Palermo, Palermo. The song was released as a Decca single which became a Top 40 chart hit in the U.S., peaking at #22 on the ''Billboard'' chart. Richard Berry (musician)
Richard Berry Jr. (April 11, 1935 – January 23, 1997) was an American singer, songwriter and musician, who performed with many Los Angeles doo-wop and close harmony groups in the 1950s, including the Flairs and the Robins. He is best known as the composer and original performer of the rock standard "Louie Louie". The song became a hit for the Kingsmen and others, and it is one of the most recorded songs of all time; however, Berry received little financial benefit for writing it until the 1980s, having signed away his rights to the song in 1959. He also wrote and released "Have Love, Will Travel" which has been recorded by many other artists. ''Boom'' is the second studio album by the American garage rock band The Sonics, released in February 1966. Release ''Boom'' was released in 1966 by record label Etiquette ET-ALBS-027. It was re-released in 1999 by Norton Records NW 905. Reception Cub Koda of AllMusic called the album "every bit as explosive and influential as their debut outing". They rated it 4 1/2 stars. Kearney Whitsell Barton (December 29, 1931 – January 17, 2012) was an American record producer active in Seattle, Washington, from the 1950s to the 2000s. Particularly known for his 1950s and 1960s-era recordings of garage rock bands, Barton recorded many Pacific Northwest musicians such as The Fleetwoods, The Ventures, The Wailers, The Sonics, The Frantics, The Kingsmen, Quincy Jones, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Bonnie Guitar, and Dave Lewis. The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph record, vinyl records and Compact cassette, cassettes, and the terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. Evergreen Ballroom
The Evergreen Ballroom was a music venue at 9121 Pacific Avenue SE in Olympia, Washington. Referred to as "The 'Green" by locals, it was a popular dancehall for nearly 70 years. In its heyday, famous musical acts of all genres performed at the Evergreen. The venue served as a central community gathering place until it was destroyed by a fire in 2000. History On May 23, 1931, contractors William Sholund and Emmett Brown opened the Evergreen Pavilion along a section of U.S. Route 99 called the "old Tacoma and Olympia Highway" (now Pacific Avenue). It was a prime location between Seattle and Portland, Oregon. Less than six months after opening, the Evergreen was mysteriously destroyed by fire on November 9, 1931. The Cramps
The Cramps were an American rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2009. Their lineup rotated frequently during their existence, with the husband-and-wife duo of singer Lux Interior and guitarist Poison Ivy the only ever-present members. The band are credited as progenitors of the psychobilly subgenre, fusing elements of punk rock with rockabilly. The addition of guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Balam resulted in the first complete lineup in April 1976. They released their debut album '' Songs the Lord Taught Us'' in 1980. The band split after the death of lead singer Interior in 2009.
