''The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues'' is a 1955 independent film, independently made American black-and-white science fiction film, science-fiction monster film produced by Jack Milner and Dan Milner (who also directed), that stars Kent Taylor and Cathy Downs. The film's December release was as a double feature with ''Day the World Ended'', American Releasing Corporation's first dual venture. ARC thereafter changed its name, becoming American International Pictures. Plot A mysterious, man-sized reptilian monster kills a fisherman at sea. Biologist Ted Baxter (Kent Taylor) and Federal Agent William Grant (Rodney Bell) discover the man's body, washed up on the beach and covered with radiation burns. They decide to investigate the strange death. After two young divers are killed by the monster, Ted and Grant decide to dive in the same location and investigate the area. Helene Stanton
Helene Stanton (born Eleanor Mae Stansbury, November 4, 1925 – June 7, 2017) was an American singer and actress. Her career began as an opera singer for the Cosmopolitan Opera Company in Philadelphia, before moving to Hollywood, where she became a singer of popular music. In 1949, she married silent film actor Ken Harlan, but the marriage broke down and they divorced four years later in 1953. After being spotted in Las Vegas and offered a part in the film The Big Combo, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, starring in films alongside actors such as Johnny Weissmuller, Arthur Franz and Tom Drake. After several film roles during 1955 and starring in a silent role alongside comic Ben Blue in 1956, she retired from acting in 1957. Midnite Movies
''Midnite Movies'' is a line of B movies released first on VHS and later on DVD by MGM Home Entertainment. The line was launched by MGM in March 2001 following its acquisition of Orion Pictures, which bought out Filmways, the owner of American International Pictures. AIP had a library of B movies from the 1950s and 1960s that were primarily science fiction, horror, and exploitation films. The ''Midnite Movies'' collection was primarily derived from the AIP library (including most of Roger Corman and Vincent Price's horror films), but also included films from other MGM-owned libraries, namely United Artists, Cannon Films, and Empire International Pictures; films from Hammer Film Productions and Amicus Productions were also licensed and released under the banner. Leonard Michael Maltin (born December 18, 1950) is an American film critic, film historian, and author. He is known for his book of film capsule reviews, '' Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide'', published from 1969 to 2014. Maltin was the film critic on ''Entertainment Tonight'' from 1982 to 2012. He currently teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and hosts the weekly podcast ''Maltin on Movies''. He served two terms as President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and votes for films to be selected for the National Film Registry. He has written books on animation and the history of film. He has also hosted numerous specials and provided commentary for several films.
