The Pallisers
''The Pallisers'' is a 1974 BBC television adaptation of Anthony Trollope's Palliser novels. Set in Victorian era England with a backdrop of parliamentary life, Simon Raven's dramatisation covers six novels and follows the events and characters over two decades. The series featured a large cast of both prominent and rising actors. Plot The series begins with the story of Lady Glencora, fiancée of the dry, aristocratic Plantagenet Palliser, who will inherit the title of the Duke of Omnium and Gatherum from his uncle. Although they marry, Lady Glencora still pines for her unsuitable but handsome admirer Burgo Fitzgerald. Palliser becomes aware of this situation and takes his wife on a long tour of Europe, even though he had recently been offered the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer, the one political position he craves. Edward Burnham (25 December 1916 – 30 June 2015) was an English actor whose career spanned over 60 years. Early years Burnham was born in Stafford, England, 25 December 1916. He was educated at The Latymer School in London. Sidney Charles Bromley (24 July 1909 – 14 August 1987GRO Register of Deaths: AUG 1987 18 2293 WORTHING - Sydney Charles Bromley DoB = 24 Jul 1909 aged 78), credited as Sydney Bromley, was an English character actor. He appeared in more than sixty films and television programmes. On stage, he appeared in the 1924 premiere of '' Saint Joan'', by George Bernard Shaw, as well as the 1957 film of the same name. Terence Joseph Alexander (11 March 1923 – 28 May 2009) was an English film and television actor, best known for his role as Charlie Hungerford in the British TV drama '' Bergerac'', which ran for nine series on BBC1 between 1981 and 1991. Early life and career Alexander was born in London, the son of a doctor, and grew up in Yorkshire.
