The Overnighters
''The Overnighters'' is a 2014 American documentary film written, directed, and produced by Jesse Moss. It premiered on January 18, 2014, as part of the U.S. Documentary Competition section of the Sundance Film Festival, and it won the festival's Special Jury Prize. The film also won a prize at the Miami International Film Festival, at which it was screened on March 13, 2014. After its premiere at Sundance, Drafthouse Films acquired the film's distribution rights. It was released on October 24, 2014, in United States, with a portion of all box office receipts being donated to affordable housing charities in North Dakota. Jesse Moss (filmmaker)
Jesse Moss is an American documentary filmmaker and cinematographer known for his cinéma vérité style. His 2014 film, ''The Overnighters'', was shortlisted for best documentary feature at the Oscars. He has directed four independent, feature-length films, and three television documentaries and has produced 15 documentaries. Moss is a cinema lecturer at San Francisco State University and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and frequent collaborator Amanda McBaine and their two children. ''Finding Vivian Maier'' is a 2013 American documentary film about the photographer Vivian Maier, written, directed, and produced by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, and executive produced by Jeff Garlin. Synopsis Maier was a French-American woman who worked most of her life as a nanny and housekeeper to a multitude of Chicago families. She carried a camera everywhere she went, but Maier's photographic legacy was largely unknown during her lifetime. She died in 2009. The film documents how Maloof discovered her work and, after her death, uncovered her life through interviews with people who knew her.
