Composed by British musician Elton John and composer Hans Zimmer, with lyrics by Tim Rice, the song was performed by Carmen Twillie (the deep female lead vocals) and Lebo M (opening vocals in Zulu) as the film's opening song. These recordings are from the days prior to Elton John's success as a solo performer. They are taken from a variety of periodically issued budget-priced compilations of hit songs, under brand names including ''Top of the Pops'', ''Chartbusters'' and ''Hot Hits''. These were issued by budget labels including Music for Pleasure and featured current or recent hits re-recorded, with varying degrees of note-for-note accuracy, by nameless "soundalike" performers. ''Duets'' is a collaborative studio album by English musician Elton John, released in 1993. The album debuted at No. 7 in the UK. In the US, it peaked at number 25 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart and was certified platinum in January 1994 by the RIAA. ''Duets'' was released on a single CD, a single cassette and also as a double vinyl LP in the UK, with a slightly different running order.
