The Importance Of Being Idle (song)
"The Importance of Being Idle" is a song by English rock band Oasis. It was released on 22 August 2005 in the UK as the second single from their sixth studio album, ''Don't Believe the Truth'' (2005), written, produced, and sung by lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. The song was written by Gallagher in mid-2004, before the band made their final attempt at recording what would become ''Don't Believe the Truth''. The song debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart and stayed there for a week, marking the first time that Oasis had ever earned two successive number ones in the same calendar year (having also charted at number one earlier in 2005 with " Lyla"). "The Importance of Being Idle" would prove to be the band's last UK number one prior to their break-up in 2009. Oasis (band)
Oasis are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. The group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals), Paul Arthurs, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (musician), Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam asked his older brother Noel Gallagher (lead guitar, vocals) to join as a fifth member a few months later to finalise their formation. Colin Murray "Gem" Archer ( '; born 7 December 1966) is an English guitarist and singer. He is best known as a member of the rock bands Oasis, Beady Eye and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, making him and Chris Sharrock the only members of Oasis to have been part of both Liam and Noel Gallagher's post-Oasis projects. He is also known for his work with Heavy Stereo. Archer joined Oasis as second guitarist in November 1999, and contributed to the writing of some of the band's songs. Oasis went on a 15-year hiatus in August 2009, but in November 2009, Liam Gallagher announced he was writing new material with Archer as well as other Oasis members excluding his brother Noel, under the name Beady Eye. Richard Carruthers (born 25 March 1966, Sussex, England) is an English music video and film director, based in London, England. Zak Richard Starkey (born 13 September 1965) is an English rock drummer who toured and recorded with the Who from 1996 to 2025. He is also the third drummer to have appeared with Oasis. Andrew Piran Bell (born 11 August 1970) is a Welsh musician. He is one of two vocalists and guitarists of the rock band Ride (band), Ride, and is the bassist of Oasis (band), Oasis from 1999 until their breakup in 2009 and since their reunion in 2024. Bell was also a member of Hurricane No. 1, Hurricane #1 as well as Beady Eye, an offshoot of Oasis, until their breakup in 2014. Kitchen Sink Drama
Kitchen sink realism (or kitchen sink drama) is a British cultural movement that developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in theatre, art, novels, film and television plays, whose protagonists usually could be described as " angry young men" who were disillusioned with modern society. It used a style of social realism which depicted the domestic situations of working-class Britons, living in cramped rented accommodation and spending their off-hours drinking in grimy pubs, to explore controversial social and political issues ranging from abortion to homelessness.
