Dabirul Islam
Dabirul Islam (born 29 September 1948) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Thakurgaon-2 constituency since 1996, during 1991–1996 and 1986–1988. He is chairman of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. He is a 7-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Thakurgaon-2 constituency. Mirza Ruhul Amin
Mirza Ruhul Amin () was a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and a former member of parliament for Thakurgaon-2. His son, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is the secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Early life and education He was born on 28 February 1921 in Atwari, Panchagarh, Bengal Presidency. His elder brother Mirza Ghulam Hafiz was a politician who later served as the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad from 1979 to 1982. His alternative elder brother Wing Commander S.R. Mirza served in the Pakistan Air Force and was retired from the Pakistan Air Force in 1969. He passed matriculation from Thakurgaon Government Boys High School in 1938. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Calcutta. Career Ruhul Amin served in the East Pakistan Assembly from 1962 to 1969. 2024 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 January 2024 in accordance with the Constitution of Bangladesh, constitutional requirement, stating that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the current term of the Jatiya Sangsad on 29 January 2024. The Awami League, led by incumbent Sheikh Hasina, won the election for the fourth consecutive time with less than 40% of the eligible voters voting according to an Election Commission, which was run by the ruling political party. The party won 224 seats while independent candidates, most of whom were Awami League members propped up as dummy candidates to give a semblance of competition, won 62 seats. The Jatiya Sangsad (), often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as is the unicameral Legislature, legislative body of Bangladesh. 2001 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 1 October 2001. The 300 seats of the Jatiya Sangsad were contested by 1,935 candidates representing 54 parties and 484 independents. The elections were the second to be held under the caretaker government concept, introduced in 1996. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance (Bangladesh), Grand Alliance including Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Ershad's Jatiya Party (Ershad), Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and opposition leader Khaleda Zia put under house arrest. There were widespread arrests of other opposition members, violence and strikes by the opposition, attacks on religious minorities, and extrajudicial killings by the government, with around 21 people killed on election day. The Awami League, officially known as Bangladesh Awami League, is a major List of political parties in Bangladesh, political party in Bangladesh.
