Texas–Pan American Broncs
The Texas–Pan American Broncs (also UTPA) were the varsity athletic teams representing University of Texas–Pan American in Edinburg, Texas in intercollegiate athletics. The university sponsored 15 teams including men and women's basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and track and field (indoor and outdoor); soccer and volleyball for women only; and baseball for men only. The last varsity sport to be established for the Broncs was women's soccer, added for the 2014 season (2014–15 school year), with men's soccer added in 2015, the year that the merger took place. The Broncs compete in the NCAA Division I and are currently members of the Western Athletic Conference. The 2014–15 school year was the last season for UTPA as an institution. The University of Texas–Pan American (UTPA) was a public university in Edinburg, Texas. Founded in 1927, it was a component institution of the University of Texas System. The university served the Rio Grande Valley (Texas), Rio Grande Valley and South Texas with baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Carnegie Foundation Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, classified UTPA as a "doctoral research university". From the institution's founding until it was merged into the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), it grew from 200 students to over 20,000, making UTPA the List of largest Texas universities by enrollment, 10th-largest university in Texas. Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. Bill White (basketball Coach)
Bill White (October 21, 1936 – August 7, 1999) was an American basketball coach. Coaching career He was the first head coach of the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles men's basketball team, and he helped lay the groundwork for the university's athletic and health education departments. While at the university, White compiled a record of 65–35, which ranks him as the third winningest coach in school history. Prior to taking the head coaching position at the program, White established the basketball program at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. Texas Longhorns Men's Basketball
The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team represents the University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I College basketball, intercollegiate men's basketball competition. Abe Lemons
A.E. "Abe" Lemons (November 21, 1922 – September 2, 2002) was an American college basketball player and coach. As a head coach at Oklahoma City University, Pan American University and the University of Texas at Austin, he compiled a record of 594–343 in 34 seasons. Early life Lemons was born in Ryan, Oklahoma, and given the initials-only name "A.E." He grew up in the town of Walters, Oklahoma and graduated from Walters High School in the spring of 1941. Lemons earned a basketball scholarship to play for Southwestern Oklahoma Teachers College (now known as Southwestern Oklahoma State University). and their long-time coach Rankin Williams. Lucious Brown Jackson (October 31, 1941 – October 12, 2022), also known as Luke Jackson, was an American professional basketball player. NAIA National Men's Basketball Championship
The NAIA men's basketball national championship has been held annually by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics since 1937 NAIA basketball tournament, 1937 to determine the national champion of men's college basketball among its members in the United States and Canada. The tournament was established by James Naismith to crown a national champion for smaller colleges and universities and has been held every year since, with the exceptions of 1944 NAIA basketball tournament, 1944 (due to World War II) and 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
