Texas State University System
The Texas State University System (TSUS) is a public university system in Texas. It was created in 1911 to oversee the state's normal schools. It has since broadened its focus and comprises institutions of many different scopes. It is the only public university system in the state without a flagship university. The TSUS is composed of four comprehensive universities offering baccalaureate and graduate degrees: Lamar University in Beaumont, Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Sul Ross State University in Alpine, and Texas State University in San Marcos. The system also includes three two-year colleges offering associate degrees and professional certifications: Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, Lamar State College–Orange in Orange, and Lamar State College–Port Arthur in Port Arthur. Lamar Institute Of Technology
Lamar Institute of Technology is a public technical school in Beaumont, Texas. It was formerly a part of Lamar University, but became a separate institution when the university joined the Texas State University System in 1995. History Lamar Institute of Technology was chartered in 1949 when the Lamar College Bill was passed. The bill was sponsored in the Texas Legislature by State Representative Jack Brooks and Senator W.R. Cousins, Jr. of Beaumont. The institute began as the Division of Vocations within Lamar College. The University of North Texas System is a public university system headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Christmas Mountains (Texas)
The Christmas Mountains are a small range of mountains next to Big Bend National Park in Brewster County, Texas, United States. The highest peak is above sea level. The 9,270-acre tract is owned by the Texas State University System and is open to the public and to academic researchers studying the area's natural resources. The area's shallow, stony soils support oak, juniper, mesquite, chaparral, various cacti, and grasses. The Richard K. Mellon Foundation, through the Conservation Fund, donated the Christmas Mountains to the State of Texas in 1991 for use as or inclusion in a nature park, wildlife refuge, recreational area or similarly designated use area. Lamar University System
The Lamar University System was a state university system established in 1983 with four existing institutions: the flagship Lamar University, and the member institutions Lamar State College–Port Arthur, Lamar State College–Orange (both two-year community colleges), and Lamar Institute of Technology. Port Arthur, Texas
Port Arthur is a city in the state of Texas, United States of America, located east of metro Houston. Part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area, the city lies primarily in Jefferson County, with a small extension in Orange County. The largest oil refinery in the US, the Motiva Refinery, is located in Port Arthur. The population was 53,818 at the 2010 census, down from 57,755 at the 2000 census.
