Tetovo
Tetovo (, ; , sq-definite, Tetova) is a city in the northwestern part of North Macedonia, built on the foothills of Šar Mountain and divided by the Pena (river), Pena River. The municipality of Tetovo covers an area of at above sea level, with a population of 63,176. The city of Tetovo is the seat of Tetovo Municipality. Tetovo was founded in the 14th century on the place of the ancient town of Oaeneon. In the 15th c. AD, Tetovo came under Ottoman rule for about five centuries. After its conquest by the Ottomans, most of city's population converted to Islam and many Ottoman-style structures were built, such as the Šarena Džamija and the Arabati Baba Teḱe, which still stand as two of North Macedonia's most significant landmarks of its Ottoman period. Šarena Mosque
Šarena Džamija, (; or ; ) meaning Decorated Mosque in English language, English but also variably translated as Painted Mosque, is a mosque located near the Pena (river), Pena River in Tetovo, North Macedonia. The mosque was originally built in 1438 and later rebuilt in 1833 by Abdurrahman Pasha. Unlike other mosques of the Classical Ottoman period, the Šarena Mosque is more characteristic of traditional mosques in Anatolia, as it was constructed before the conquest of Constantinople, when Byzantine-influenced mosque domes became the standard design. Tetovo Fortress
The Tetovo Fortress (; ) is a ruined fortress and archaeological site in Tetovo, North Macedonia. Because of its location on a hill called Baltepe, it is also known as Baltepe Fortress. The fortress was built beginning in 1820 under Abdurrahman Pasha, who also reconstructed the Šarena Mosque. On the site previously stood a monastery dedicated to Saint Athanasius. The fortress was built with a guest house, a dungeon, a kitchen, a dining hall, and a fountain. Water did not flow from the fountain, reportedly, until Abdurrahman Pasha was summoned to Constantinople in 1843 on suspicion of treason. After his departure from Tetovo, the fortress fell into ruin. It is believed that three escape tunnels were built from the fortress: one to the city center, one to the upper part of Tetovo, and one to the village of Lavce. State University Of Tetovo
The State University of Tetova (; ) is a public university in North Macedonia. The university was established on 17 December 1994 as the first Albanian-language higher education institution in Macedonia, though not recognized as a state university by the national government until January 2004. As of 2018–19 academic year, 7,097 students are enrolled at the university. History The State University of Tetova was founded on 17 December 1994 by Albanians, without government approval. South East European University (SEEU), informally also known as the Max van der Stoel University, is a private-public nonprofit higher education institution. Pena (river)
Pena (, ) is the biggest Šar river in Polog, North Macedonia after the Vardar River. It is the biggest Vardarian tributary from the Šar lakes. Spring and course The spring of Pena starts in the region of Čabriolica and Borisloica, high on the Šar Mountains, 2,500 metres above sea level. At first, there are two small streams that merge at the villages of Vešala and Bozovce. Going through the center of Tetovo it hangs up in the Polog valley and near the village of Saraḱino it flows into the Vardar. Bilal Kasami
Bilal Kasami (born 31 July 1975) is a Macedonian politician. He is the president of the Besa Movement party in which he co-founded. He served in the Assembly of North Macedonia from 2016 to 2020. In 2021, he was elected mayor of Tetovo. Biography Kasami completed economic studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje in 2000, and in the following four years he worked in the customs administration of North Macedonia. From 2004 to 2006, he was the state secretary in the Ministry of Economy as a member of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), but then he returned to the customs office where he stayed for two years. Kasami left DUI in 2008 and joined New Democracy, which became defunct in 2011 due to the poor performance in parliamentary election held that year. Macedonian ( ; , , ) is an Eastern South Slavic language.
