Tere Ngawai Gilbert is a New Zealand early childhood educator and advocate for the te reo Māori language. In 2024 Gilbert was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to early childhood and Māori language education. Early life and education Gilbert is Māori, and affiliates to Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Hauiti, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Kahungunu iwi. Gilbert attended the University of Waikato where she earned a Bachelor and a higher diploma of teaching, a postgraduate diploma in education, and a Master of Business Administration. Career Gilbert has been a part of the Māori language revival movement, Kōhanga Reo, for more than thirty years. Gilbert was the kaiako (teacher) and tumuaki (manager) of the University of Waikato on-campus early childhood education centre from 1994 until 2015. Maria Teresa "Tere" Marichal Lugo, (born May 24, 1956) better known as her character Maria Chuzema is a Puerto Rican actor, writer, ventriloquist, playwright and television personality. For 25 years starting in 1987, her television show, *La Casa de Maria Chuzema", was shown on Puerto Rico's government channel, the PBS-affiliated Canal 6. Tere O'Connor (born 1958) is an American dancer, choreographer and educator. Life and career Tere O'Connor was born in Rochester, New York, and graduated in 1979 with a B.A. from State University of New York at Purchase. He performed in the companies of Rosalind Newman and Matthew Diamond, and began working as a choreographer in 1982. He regularly collaborates with composer James Baker in works for the Tere O'Connor Dance company. O'Connor's works have been performed internationally. Notable dancers and choreographers including Lucy Guerin have danced with his company. Pica (26 September 1945 – 15 November 2011), also known as Tere Pica, was a professor of education at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, a post she held from 1983 until her death in 2011.
