Many centrarchiforms look essentially perch-like, featuring a stocky build and a spine-bearing dorsal fin, and range in size from in length (for ''Gulf Coast pygmy sunfish, Elassoma gilberti),'' to for the ''Murray cod, Maccullochella peelii.''
