Tenryū-ku
is one of the three wards of the city of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is bordered by Kita-ku and Hamakita-ku in Hamamatsu, the cities of Shimada and Iwata and towns of Mori and Kawanehon in Shizuoka, Shishiro, Tōei and Toyone in Aichi Prefecture and Iida and Tenryū in Nagano Prefecture. Tenryū Ward was established on April 1, 2007. It consists of five former cities, towns and villages, including the former city of Tenryū, and towns of Sakuma, Haruno and Misakubo that had previously merged into Hamamatsu on July 1, 2005. Tenryū Ward is the largest of Hamamatsu’s seven wards in terms of area. Its population density of 28.9 people per km² is very low. The ward had a population of 34,936 and an area of 944.00 km² in 2009. It's heavily forested, contributing to forestry, which is one of the principal industries of Hamamatsu. Misakubo, Shizuoka
was a town which was located in Iwata District, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. At the time of its merger, the town had an estimated population of 3,219 and a density of 11.86 persons per km2. The total area was 271.28 km2. On July 1, 2005, Misakubo, along with the cities of Tenryū and Hamakita, the town of Haruno (from Shūchi District), the towns of Hosoe, Inasa and Mikkabi (all from Inasa District), the town of Sakuma, the village of Tatsuyama (all from Iwata District), and the towns of Maisaka and Yūtō (both from Hamana District), was merged into the expanded city of Hamamatsu, and is now part of Tenryū-ku, Hamamatsu City. Haruno, Shizuoka
was a town located in Shūchi District, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Haruno was founded as a town on September 30, 1956. As of June 1, 2005, the town had an estimated population of 5,953 and a density of 23.6 persons per km2. The total area was 252.17 km2. Mount Akiba was located within the town limits. Kita-ku, Hamamatsu
was a ward in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan, located in the north of the city. It is bordered by Tenryū-ku to the north, Higashi-ku and Naka-ku to the east, Hamakita-ku Minami-ku and Kosai to the south, and the cities of Toyohashi and Shinshiro to the west. It is largely a residential suburb of central Hamamatsu, and a considerable portion of the ward is forested. Kita-ku was created on April 1, 2007 when Hamamatsu became a city designated by government ordinance (a "designated city"). It consists of the former towns of Inasa, Hosoe and Mikkabi, which had already merged into Hamamatsu in 2005. In 2009, it had a population of 95,419 in an area of 277.63 km², with a population density of 344 persons per km².
