State Route 312 (SR 312) is a secondary state route in Hamilton and Bradley counties in the US state of Tennessee that runs from Birchwood to Cleveland. The route runs east and west, however, much of the route in Hamilton County runs north and south. Route description SR 312 begins at an intersection with SR 60 in Birchwood, a small community in northeastern Hamilton County, and travels southwest for approximately as Birchwood Pike through rural farmland, before turning east and intersecting with SR 58 near Harrison. The route then runs north concurrently with SR 58 for about , before turning east as Mahan Gap Road. The route runs through the community of Snow Hill, and about later comes to a four-way intersection with Ooltewah-Georgetown Road, a major connector road between the communities of Ooltewah and Georgetown. Tennessee State Route 2
State Route 2 (SR 2) is a west–to–east state highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It begins in Murfreesboro, in Rutherford County, and ends near Farragut in Loudon County. The route is both a primary and secondary route. Most of the route is unsigned. It travels southeast from Rutherford County toward Chattanooga and then northeast from there to Loudon County. As nearly the entire route travels concurrent with U.S. Highways, the designation "Tennessee State Route 2" is seldomly used by the general public. The only exception would be a small portion of the route that runs parallel to Interstate 24 (I-24) near Kimball. This portion has been removed from the U.S. Highway system and is no longer part of U.S. Route 41 (US 41); but the highway still exists and is in use. In Tennessee, U.S. Route 64 (US 64) stretches from the Mississippi River (Arkansas state line) in Memphis to the North Carolina state line near Ducktown. The highway, along with US 72, is a major route for travel between Memphis and Chattanooga. History The route between Cleveland and the eastern end of the Ocoee Scenic Byway follows the route of the Old Copper Road, a wagon trail dating back to the 1830s used for transporting copper from the mines in the Copper Basin to Cleveland and Chattanooga. The route originally continued westward from downtown Cleveland, crossing the Tennessee River at a ferry in Hamilton County, through Soddy-Daisy and across the Cumberland Plateau, and joined where the concurrency splits from US 41 (now part of Interstate 24) near Pelham. Candies Creek Ridge
Candies Creek Ridge, also known (more commonly in the past) as Clingan Ridge, is a geographic feature ridge located primarily in Bradley County, Tennessee, on the southeastern border of the state. It overlooks Candies Creek and is in north Cleveland, Tennessee. Found here in 1996 was a large South Appalachian Mississippian culture village, built about 1000-1200 CE. It is unusual in this location, because Mississippian villages were typically found in the bottomlands along rivers and creeks. The 5-acre site was acquired for preservation by The Archeological Conservancy in 2001 and is known as the Jim Sharp Archeological Preserve. Geography The ridge, one of a series of parallel ridges that are a continuation of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, is one of the tallest, averaging approximately 997 feet (304 meters) of elevation. McDonald is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Bradley County, Tennessee, United States. McDonald is located along U.S. Route 11 and U.S. Route 64 west-southwest of Cleveland. McDonald has a post office with ZIP code 37353. The United States Census Bureau treated the community as a CDP for the 2020 census and the population was 586. History The McDonald community was established circa 1850. The origin of its name is unclear; the community may have been named for a Scottish trader, a railroad builder, or the mother of a resident. In 1887, Goodspeed's History of Tennessee described McDonald's Station as a "small village on the East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railroad." White Oak Mountain
White Oak Mountain is a mountain located in northwestern Georgia and southeastern Tennessee. The mountain is part of the Ridge and Valley Appalachians. Description White Oak Mountain is one of a series of paralleling ridges running approximately north-northeast in the Tennessee Valley between the Cumberland Plateau/Mountains to the west and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east. The mountain averages 1,368 feet above sea level, the highest point being 1,495 feet. The mountain begins on the north side of Ringgold Gap, the site of an 1863 Civil War battle, in Catoosa County just east of Ringgold. Ooltewah ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. It is a community near Chattanooga. The population was 684 at the 2020 census. Ooltewah is an enclave in the city of Collegedale. History Ooltewah was the county seat of James County, a former Tennessee county that went bankrupt in 1919 and was subsequently incorporated into Hamilton County. The former James County Courthouse located in the square in downtown Ooltewah is the community's major landmark. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
