Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival
Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival is an annual arts festival held in Gisborne, New Zealand, Gisborne, New Zealand. The festival is about celebrating the 'artistry, talent and storytelling' of the Gisborne District, East Coast region. Background The chief executive and artistic director is Tama Waipara. Waipara has said of the festival: "Having a place to tell stories that are formed of place is about reinstalling our narratives into the fabric of the landscape". The first festival was held in 2019 and coincided with Tuia 250. It was launched at an event on 17 July 2019 at Toko Toru Tapu Church of Manutuke, Gisborne. It was launched by Tama Waipara, Teina Moetara and Mere Boynton, with music by Annie Crummer and Te Tira Hapori o Manutuke choir. The festival is supported by the Trust Tairāwhiti (formerly Eastland Community Trust). Anika Moa
Anika Rose Moa (born 21 May 1980) is a New Zealand recording artist and television presenter. Her debut studio album ''Thinking Room'', was released in September 2001, which reached number one on the Official New Zealand Music Chart, New Zealand Albums Chart and provided two Top 5 singles, "Youthful" (2001) and "Falling in Love Again" (2002). Moa competed at the Rockquest songwriting contest in 1998, which led to a recording contract. Silo Theatre
Silo Theatre is a theatre production company based in Auckland, New Zealand established in 1997. In 2024 Silo Theatre's director was Sophie Roberts. Silo Theatre has produced plays featuring many well-known New Zealand creative people including Toa Fraser, Tusiata Avia, Rachel House and Chris Parker. Background Silo Theatre started out as a 'boutique underground theatre' in a venue off Queen Street in central Auckland in 1997. Anapela Polataivao is a New Zealand actor, writer, and director of stage and screen. Background Polataivao was born in Samoa and has heritage from Vailoa, Vaiusu, Fagae'e and Safune. She grew up in South Auckland. Career Polataivao began acting as a child with her role at the age of eight. Rongowhakaata
Rongowhakaata is a Māori iwi of the Gisborne region of New Zealand. Hapū and marae There are three primary ''hapū'' (subtribes) of Rongowhakaata today: Ngāti Kaipoho, Ngāi Tawhiri and Ngāti Maru. Ngāti Kaipoho Ngāti Kaipoho descend from Kaipoho, the son of Whare (also known as Whare-rau-o-te-tahinga) and great-grandson of Rongomairatahi. Kaipoho built Tapui Pā on the west bank of Te Arai River, he also had a fishing settlement at Te Kowhai, near pakirikiri (what is now known as "Browns Beach"). Kaipoho was killed in battle and later avenged by his son Te Aweawe, who took over Tapui Pā. Ngāti Kaipoho at one time fought against Ngāti Maru and caused Ngāti Maru's exodus from Waiapu, where they had lived for a time. Hollie Fullbrook is an Auckland-based singer and multi-instrumentalist who is the face of Tiny Ruins. She collaborated with Hamish Kilgour on the '' Hurtling Through'' EP. Nadia Reid
Nadia Reid (born 23 August 1991) is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Port Chalmers, New Zealand. She has released three albums and toured internationally. Early life Reid was born in 1991 in Port Chalmers, near Dunedin, New Zealand. She is the daughter of Karin Reid and Craig O'Reilly.
