Tarsus Waterfall
Tarsus Waterfall is located on the northern outskirts of the city of Tarsus, not far from the motorway O.51, in southern Turkey. Since the construction of the Berdan Dam, the water of the Tarsus River has been distributed in canals for irrigation, with the result that the waterfall can now be seen only in seasons of very heavy rainfall. Tarsus (; Hittite: š«š š ; ; ; ) is a municipality and district of Mersin Province, Turkey. Its area is 2,029 km2, and its population is 350,732 (2022). It is a historic city, inland from the Mediterranean Sea. It is part of the Adana-Mersin metropolitan area, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Turkey. Tarsus forms an administrative district in the eastern part of Mersin Province and lies at the heart of the region. With a history going back over 6,000 years, Tarsus has long been an important stop for traders and a focal point of many civilisations. Otoyol 51 (), abbreviated as O-51, aka Adana-Erdemli Otoyolu (), is a toll motorway in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey, connecting the cities Adana and Mersin. The motorway is on its full length of part of international routes as of European routes E90 and E982 and Asian Highway 84. The motorway starts from the western terminus of O-52 in Central Adana, runs westward reaching the south terminus of Pozantı-Adana Motorway O-21 northeast of Tarsus, continues southwest to Mersin bypassing it at north and terminates in Erdemli. Berdan River
The Berdan (also BaradÄn or BaradÄ), the ancient Cydnus (), is a river in Mersin Province, south Turkey. The historical city of Tarsus is on the river and it is therefore sometimes called the Tarsus River. Originally the watercourse passed directly through the city, but the section in Tarsus was changed to its present course in the 6th century. The river is also the location of Tarsus Waterfall. Geography The main headwaters are in the Toros Mountains. There are two main tributaries: Kadıncık and Pamukluk (its upper reaches are called Cehennem Deresi).
