Tarapacá Airport is an airport serving Tarapacá, a town and municipality in the Amazonas Department of Colombia. The town is on the west bank of the Putumayo River, from the Brazilian border. Tarapacá, Amazonas
Tarapacá is a town and municipality in the Colombian Department of Amazonas. As of 2015, the population comprised 4,195 people. The town is served by Tarapacá Airport. History Originally founded by Peruvian refugees from the War of the Pacific, it was awarded to Colombia after the Salomón-Lozano Treaty signing in July 1922. These refugees would later resettle in the settlement of the same name in northern Peru. Amazonas (Colombian Department)
Amazonas () is a department of Southern Colombia. It is the largest department in area while having the third smallest population among the departments. Its capital is Leticia and its name comes from the Amazon River, which drains the department. It is made up entirely of Amazon Rainforest territory. The southern portion of the department, south of the Putumayo River, is called the "Amazonian Trapeze", which includes the triple border of Colombia, Peru and Brazil, and its southern limit is the Amazon River. Toponymy The department name comes from the name of the Amazon River. Putumayo River
The Putumayo River or Içá River (, ) is one of the tributaries of the Amazon River, southwest of and parallel to the Japurá River. Course The Putumayo River forms part of Colombia's border with Ecuador, as well as most of the border with Peru. Known as the Putumayo within these three nations, it is called the Içá when it crosses into Brazil. The Putumayo originates in the Andes Mountains east of the city of Pasto, Colombia. It empties into the Solimões (upper Amazon) near the municipality of Santo Antônio do Içá, Brazil. Alfredo Vásquez Cobo International Airport (, ) is an international airport located in Leticia, Colombia's southernmost city and capital of the Amazonas Department. The airport is important for the Amazon region, as it is the main gateway to the rest of the country and serves the tri-border area between Colombia, Brazil and Peru.
