Tanzania National Football Team
The Tanzania national football team () represents Tanzania in men's international association football, football and is controlled by the Tanzania Football Federation, the governing body for football in Tanzania, Tanzania's home ground is Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam and their head coach is Adel Amrouche from Algeria. They are colloquially known as the ''Taifa Stars''. Tanzania has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup. Before uniting with Zanzibar, the team played as the Tanganyika national football team. The team represents both FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF). The island of Zanzibar, part of Tanzania (and once an independent nation), is also an associate member of CAF and has played matches with other nations, but is not eligible to enter the World Cup or Africa Cup of Nations. The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF; ) previously the Football Association of Tanzania, is the governing body of football in the United Republic of Tanzania. It oversees operations of the Tanzania national football team, Tanzania women's national team and the Tanzanian football league system which comprises the Tanzanian Premier League, Tanzanian First Division League (Championship), First League and Regional Champions League. 2009 African Nations Championship
The 2009 African Nations Championship, also known as CHAN 2009 for short, was the inaugural edition of the biennial association football tournament organized by Confederation of African Football, CAF featuring national teams consisting of players playing in their respective local leagues. Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium
Benjamin Mkapa Stadium also known as Tanzania National Main Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Miburani ward of Temeke District in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It opened in 2007 and was built adjacent to Uhuru Stadium, the former national stadium. It hosts major football matches such as the Tanzanian Premier League and home matches of the Tanzania national football team. With 60,000 seats it is amongst the 20 largest stadiums in Africa and the largest stadium in Tanzania. It is owned by the Tanzanian Government. The stadium was built by Beijing Construction Engineering Group at a cost of $56 million. The 2010 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup (known as the CECAFA Tusker Cup for sponsorship reasons) is the 34th edition of the competition. The host of the tournament is Tanzania. The CECAFA Cup, formerly the Gossage Cup (1926–1966) and the East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup (1967–1971), is the oldest football tournament in Africa.
