Tamás Kiss (canoeist)
Tamás Kiss (born 9 May 1987 in Ajka) is a Hungarian sprint canoeist and marathon canoeist who has competed since the late 2000s. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he won a bronze medal in the C-2 1000 m event with teammate György Kozmann. Kiss was a last-minute replacement in the Hungarian team for the 2008 Olympics after the sudden death of two-time Olympic champion György Kolonics while he was preparing for his fifth Olympics. He teamed up with Kolonics's former partner György Kozmann György Kozmann (born March 23, 1978, in Szekszárd) is a Hungary, Hungarian canoe racing, sprint canoeist who has competed since the late 1990s. Ajka
Ajka () is a city in Hungary with about 35,000 inhabitants. It is situated in the hills of Bakony. History Around 1000 BCE, the area was inhabited by Celts. By the second century CE, the territory was conquered by the Roman Empire, Romans. The Hungarians occupied the area in the early 10th century. The village Ajka was named after the Ajka clan, which, in turn, got its name after its ancestor, a knight named Heiko, who was a member of the retinue of Giselle of Bavaria, Gisela, Princess of Bavaria, wife of King Stephen I of Hungary, St. Stephen in the early 11th century. György Kolonics
György "Kolo" Kolonics (4 June 1972 – 15 July 2008) was a Hungarian sprint canoeist who won two gold and two bronze medals at four Summer Olympics. He also won a record fifteen gold medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. He died from cardiac arrest while preparing for his fifth Olympics. Sporting career Kolonics started canoeing at the Budapesti Spartacus sport club, but soon moved to Csepel SC and remained at the club for his entire career. He first represented Hungary at the 1991 World Championships, and achieved a fifth and the sixth place in the C-4 events. At the 1992 Summer Olympics he achieved a fifth and the seventh place in the C-2 events with Attila Pálizs.
