High-definition television (HDTV) describes a television or video system which provides a substantially higher image resolution than the previous generation of technologies. TV 2 is a Danish government-owned broadcast and subscription television station, based in Odense, Funen. The station was founded in 1986, and made its first official broadcast in 1988. It makes daily broadcasts of regional and national news, as well as its morning talk show, '' Go'morgen Danmark''. History Since 1949, Danmarks Radio had been the sole provider of television in Denmark. Wanting to end the monopoly, the Danish Parliament voted on 30 May 1986, to create TV2, as a second choice for public service television. Upon its establishment, it had first begun its experimental test transmissions, and then, two years later, it had therefore commenced its official broadcast on 1 October 1988, with its first program being ''Danish Symphony'' which is broadcast at 17:00, followed by the news at 19:30. TV 2 Charlie
TV 2 Charlie is a Danish television channel owned by TV 2. It was launched on 1 October 2004. The channel shows own productions and British criminal dramas (like ''Dalziel and Pascoe'', ''A Touch of Frost'' and ''Silent Witness''.) It broadcasts from 8:00 in the afternoon to 02:00 in the night, and is available by digital antenna (DVB-T/T2 & MPEG4), cable and satellite. In recent years programming airs almost continually, with only a short break in the deep hours of the night around 4:00. The channel is funded by usage fees and advertising. The commercials appear between the programmes only. On satellite, TV 2 Charlie (as well as TV 2 Zulu and TV 2 Film) was initially exclusively available via Canal Digital. TV 2 News (former working title: TV 2 Nyhedskanalen)  is a Danish language television news channel which started broadcasting on 1 December 2006. It's one of the first 24-hour news channels in the Danish language ( 24Nordjyske is also a 24-hour news channel but is only shown in Nordjylland). The channel has editorial offices at the TV 2 headquarters at Kvægtorvet in Odense, and in Copenhagen. History On 10 December 2007, TV 2 News began using Viz Mosart from Vizrt for the channel's automation, becoming the first channel in the world to do so. TV 2 Film was a 24-hour two-star movie channel owned by TV 2. It was launched on November 1, 2005, at 9 p.m. First to air was the Danish feature film '' The Green Butchers''. The channel mostly shows American two-star movies. Each movie is shown many times over the course of several days. In August 2008, the channel started broadcasting in the widescreen format. This was followed by the launch of a high-definition simulcast of the channel on January 1, 2009. The channel was developed from a film strand on TV 2 called ''"en go' film uden afbrydelser"'' ("A good movie without interruptions"). Initially, the channel carried advertising between the films, but this practise was discontinued in 2007 as the advertising sales had remained modest.
