Hernando County Transit (TheBus) is a cooperative effort of the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners, Metropolitan Planning Organization, City of Brooksville, Florida, Brooksville, Florida Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration and RATP Dev in serving the people of Hernando County with affordable public transportation. History Prior to the establishment of TheBus, the only resemblance to public transportation available in Hernando County was a tourist bus company in Brooksville, and a local ParaTransit company, both which were privately owned. State Road 50 (SR 50) runs across the center of the U.S. state of Florida through Orlando, with its termini at SR 55 ( US 19) at Weeki Wachee and SR 5 ( U.S. Route 1) in Titusville. SR 50 is signed east–west. Within various counties throughout the state, the highway is signed with various names such as Cortez Boulevard in Hernando County and Colonial Drive in Orange County. The former section includes the concurrency with US 98 between Brooksville and near Ridge Manor. US 98-SR 50 is the only interchange with Interstate 75 in Hernando County. Pasco County Public Transportation (or GOPASCO) provides public transportation in Pasco County, Florida. The agency operates both fixed bus and paratransit services. History On March 5, 2012, a new weekday, cross-county route was added running along State Road 54. This service connects the east and west bus systems.
