''The Herd'' ( tr, Sürü) is a 1978 Turkish drama film, written, produced and co-directed by Yılmaz Güney with Zeki Ökten during Güney's second imprisonment, featuring Tarık Akan as a peasant, forced by a local blood feud to sell his sheep in faraway Ankara. According to his own account, the development of the script of Sürü, began in 1973 in prison in Selimya and finished it while in prison in Izmit. The conditions to write were at times rather difficult, in Izmit he wrote in a room he shared together with eighty other inmates. The film, which went on nationwide general release on , was screened in competition at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won Interfilm and OCIC Awards, the Locarno International Film Festival, where it won Golden Leopard and Special Mention, was scheduled to compete in the cancelled 17th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, for which it received 6 Belated Golden Oranges, including Best Film and Best Director, was awarded the B ... 17th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival
The 17th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival ( tr, 17. Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festivali) was a film festival scheduled to be held in Antalya, Turkey, in 1980, which was cancelled due to the declaration of martial law throughout the country following the military coup on September 12, 1980. The awards for this and the preceding festival, which was also cancelled, re-christened Belated Golden Oranges ( tr, Geç Gelen Altın Portallar), were presented at an award ceremony as part of the 48th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, with the recipients chosen from the films originally selected as candidates by the original jury members selected to represent the competition. Zeki Ökten
Zeki Ökten (4 August 1941 – 19 December 2009) was a Turkish film director. Biography He was born on 4 August 1941 in Istanbul. Zeki Ökten was interested in theatre during his education at the Haydarpaşa High School. He entered his filmmaking career in 1961 as the assistant director of Nişan Hançer directing ''Acı Zeytin''. Zeki Ökten directed his first film ''Ölüm Pazarı'' two years later in 1963. However, he stepped back to the post of assistant director as the success expected did not come. He worked then nine years long as the assistant to the renowned directors like Ömer Lütfi Akad, Halit Refiğ, Memduh Ün and Atıf Yılmaz. With his films ''Kadın Yapar'' in 1972 and with ''Bir Demet Menekşe'' in 1973, written by Selim İleri, he gained recognition. Tarık Akan (born Tarık Tahsin Üregül, 13 December 1949 – 16 September 2016) was a Turkish film actor and producer, who started his activity in the 1970s. Early life Akan was born as Tarık Tahsin Üregül in Istanbul on 13 December 1949. He was the third child of the family after a daughter and a son. His family was constantly moving around Turkey due to his father's occupation in the military. Schooled in Erzurum, he completed the elementary education in Kayseri. Following his father's retirement, the family moved to Istanbul and settled in Bakırköy. Akan attended Yıldız Technical University to study mechanical engineering, graduated later from the College of Journalist. Before he started his acting career, he worked as a lifeguard at beaches and at a boat renting place in Bakırköy. He completed his military service in Denizli in 1979. Servet Güler Kıpçak Ökten (born 14 November 1941) is a Turkish actress. She is best known for her roles in ''Bizimkiler'' as Türkan and in ''Yaprak Dökümü'' as Cevriye. A graduate of conservatory, she was among the students trained by Yıldız Kenter. Her father, Kani Kıpçak, was an actor and director as well. The Golden Leopard () is the top prize at the Locarno International Film Festival, an international film festival held annually in Locarno, Switzerland since 1946. The Grand Prix is an annual award presented by the Belgian Film Critics Association (french: Union de la critique de cinéma, UCC). It was introduced in 1954 by the organizing committee to honor the film of the year "that contributed the most to the enrichment and influence of film, cinema". Yılmaz Güney
Yılmaz Güney (' Pütün; 1 April 1937 – 9 September 1984) was a Kurdish film director, screenwriter, novelist, and actor. He quickly rose to prominence in the Turkish film industry. Many of his works were devoted to the plight of ordinary working-class people in Turkey. Güney won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1982 for the film ''Yol'' (The Road) which he co-produced with Şerif Gören. He was at constant odds with the Turkish government over the portrayal of Kurdish culture, people and language in his movies. After being convicted of killing judge Sefa Mutlu in 1974 (a charge which he denied), Güney fled the country and was later stripped of his citizenship. Yılmaz Güney died of gastric cancer on 9 September 1984, in Paris, France. He is buried at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
