Sønderborg County
Sønderborg County ( da, Sønderborg Amt) is a former province in Denmark, located on the island of Als and the easternmost part of Southern Jutland. Sønderborg County was established in 1920 following the reunification of Denmark and South Jutland following the Schleswig Plebiscites. It was dissolved in 1970 when it merged with three other counties to form South Jutland County. Sønderborg County corresponded geographically to the former Prussian . After Denmark surrendered control over Schleswig to Prussia and the Austrian Empire in 1864, the Schleswig island of Ærø was transferred from Augustenborg County to Svendborg County and the island remained Danish. The rest of Augustenborg County was merged with Sønderborg and became Kreis Sonderburg. Aabenraa County
Aabenraa County ( da, Åbenrå Amt, former spelling: Aabenraa Amt) is a former province in Denmark, located on the east-central region of Southern Jutland. Aabenraa County was established in 1920 following the reunification of Denmark and South Jutland following the Schleswig Plebiscites. It was dissolved in 1970 when it merged with three other counties to form South Jutland County. Aabenraa County corresponded geographically to the former Prussian Kreis Apenrade combined with the larger part of Bov Parish and Frøslev municipality (Handewitt / Hanved Parish). Both were transferred from Kreis Flensburg with the establishment of the current Danish-German border. Sønderborg Municipality
Sønderborg Municipality (german: Sonderburg), is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region of Southern Denmark partially on the Jutland peninsula and partially on the island of Als in south Denmark, at the border with Germany. The municipality covers an area of , and has a population of 75,264 (). Its mayor as of 1 January 2014 is Erik Lauritzen, a member of the Social Democratic party. Until 1 January 2007 Sydals (german: Südalsen) was a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in South Jutland County on the southern part of the island of Als off the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. Sundeved
Sundeved is a peninsula on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. It lies between Åbenrå Fjord and Als Fjord to the north, Alssund to the east and Flensborg Fjord to the south. The westernmost part of the city of Sønderborg is located on the peninsula. Most of Sønderborg is on the island of Als. Broager Municipality
Broager Municipality is a former Danish municipality (Danish, '' kommune''). The municipality covered an area of 43 km2, and had a total population of 6,290 (2005). Its last mayor was Jørn Lehmann Petersen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The municipality was established in 1922 by merging Egernsund and Broager parishes. The municipality escaped further municipal reforms in 1970 as its population was then over 6,000 inhabitants. Svendborg County
Svendborg County () is a former province in Denmark, located on the southern half of the island of Funen in central Denmark. Svendborg County was established in 1793 and abolished in 1970 when it merged with Odense County forming the new Funen County. The south Funen area was organized as Nyborg County in 1662, a province also including the Hindsholm peninsula. Hindsholm was incorporated into the new Odense County while the bulk of the former province was merged with Tranekær County and renamed to Svendborg County. This situation lasted until 1970 when Odense and Svendborg merged to form Funen County. Svendborg County featured the market towns (''købstæder'') of Faaborg, Nyborg, Rudkøbing, Svendborg, and Ærøskøbing. The latter town became part of the province in 1864.
