Södertälje SK
Södertälje Sportklubb, also known as Södertälje SK and often referred to as SSK, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club playing in HockeyAllsvenskan, the second highest level of pro hockey in Sweden. Södertälje were charter members of Elitserien when the league was founded in 1975 and have since played 24 seasons in the league (1975–1978, 1980–1981, 1983–1992, 1996–1998, 2001–2006, 2007–2011). Södertälje SK's fan club is known as Supporterklubben History Södertälje SK was founded on 22 February 1902 and originally practiced gymnastics, track and field athletics, soccer, tug of war and speed skating. Peter Popovic
Peter "Poppe" Popovic ( sr, Popović; born 10 February 1968) is a Swedish former ice hockey defenceman of Serbian ancestry, and currently an assistant coach of the Sweden men's national team. Popovic was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 5th round (93rd overall) of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Popovic began his National Hockey League career with Montreal in 1994, where he played for five seasons. He also played for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Boston Bruins. He left the NHL after the 2001 season, having played 485 games, then played for five seasons in Södertälje SK. Coaching career On 23 April 2009 Popovic was named the new head coach of Södertälje SK. In 2011, after Södertälje's relegation to HockeyAllsvenskan, Popovic was dismissed from the club. Fjällräven (, Swedish for 'The Arctic Fox') is a Swedish brand specialising in outdoor equipment—mostly upscale clothing and luggage. It was founded in 1960 by Åke Nordin (1936–2013). The 2011 Kvalserien was the 37th Kvalserien, played between 14 March and 8 April 2011. Växjö Lakers Hockey and Modo Hockey, who finished 1st and 2nd respectively, qualified for the 2011–12 Elitserien season. Södertälje SK were relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan. Växjö were the best team in this year's Kvalserien, winning nine games and going undefeated in regulation time. Växjö had already secured their Elitserien spot after the 8th round (Kvalserien has 10 rounds), and thus the team's two following games were unimportant for them, but the team still won 4–2 at home against Rögle and 5–3 away against Mora. Växjö's 4–2 win against Rögle in the ninth round extinguished Rögle's chances of qualifying for the 2011–12 Elitserien season. Växjö finished with 26 points, which is a record in Kvalserien history. Modo Hockey (or MoDo with uppercase letters) is a professional ice hockey club in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. The team plays in Sweden's second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan. The club was founded in 1987 and has won one SHL championships; in 2007. The team's home arena since 2006 is the Hägglunds Arena (previously known as ''Fjällräven Center'' and ''Swedbank Arena''). Before then, the team played at Kempehallen, beginning in 1964. The 2010 Kvalserien was the 36th Kvalserien, played between 21 March and 11 April 2010. Södertälje and AIK, who finished 1st and 2nd respectively, qualified for the 2010–11 Elitserien season. Rögle were relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan. This year's Kvalserien was one of the closest ones ever. After the 9th round, four teams ( AIK, Rögle, Leksand and Almtuna) all had their chance to qualify for the 2010–11 Elitserien season. After the 9th round, AIK were on the second and last Elitserien spot, being one point ahead of Rögle, who had 15 points at that time. AIK needed a win against Växjö at home in Hovet, in order to secure their last Elitserien spot. In the 10th and final round, AIK won 2–0 against Växjö and thus secured their Elitserien spot. 2009 Kvalserien
The 2009 Kvalserien was the 35th Kvalserien qualification for Elitserien, played between 13 March and 9 April 2009. The 2009 Kvalserien included six teams. In this year's Kvalserien, Södertälje and Rögle, who both came from Elitserien, qualified for the 2009–10 Elitserien season. It was the first time since 2003 that both teams from Elitserien managed to stay in Elitserien via Kvalserien. AIK made their first Kvalserien qualification for Elitserien since 2004. Växjö Lakers made their first Kvalserien qualification for Elitserien in the club's history. Södertälje won the 2009 Kvalserien, ending at 22 points, followed by Rögle who got 19 points. Kvalserien
Kvalserien, also known as ''Kvalserien till SHL'', was the Swedish round-robin ice hockey tournament to qualify for play in the next season of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL, previously named Elitserien), Sweden's top-level ice hockey league for men. It was replaced by a playoff round in the 2014–15 season. Teams Kvalserien was formed after the regular seasons of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL, previously named Elitserien) and the second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan had been played. The two worst ranked teams in the SHL and the best four teams in HockeyAllsvenskan formed the league together with the winner of a six-round round-robin tournament between the teams ranked 4–7 from HockeyAllsvenskan.
