Sunnybank Rugby Union Club is an Australian rugby union club based in the Brisbane suburb of Sunnybank, Queensland, currently competing in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition. It was established in 1969 and has won three premierships since it entered. History Sunnybank Rugby Union Club was founded in 1969 as a junior rugby union club, in the southern Brisbane suburb of Sunnybank. As a junior club, it was founded on the principle that any boy, no matter how good or bad a rugby player he was, would get a game. And so it remains in the ranks of the junior players at Sunnybank, however the word "boy" has been changed to "child". In its first year, the club fielded an Under 8s team coached by Bill Horsley and an Under 11s side coached by Graeme Page. The club played their home games at Sunnybank State High School, until 1974, when the club moved to its present home ground of Biggs Field in the nearby Brisbane suburb of Macgregor. Greg Holmes (rugby Union)
Greg Holmes (born 11 June 1983 in Warwick, Queensland) is an Australian rugby union footballer. He currently plays for the Western Force in Super Rugby AU and plays for Australia. His usual position is at tighthead prop, however he can play on either side of the scrum. Career Holmes made his Super 12 debut for the Reds in 2005 playing the Auckland Blues in Auckland. After having a strong debut season, Holmes found himself getting a callup to the Wallabies squad to tour Europe. He made his Australian debut against France in Marseille. Holmes came off the bench in Australia's loss to England at Twickenham, where the English overpowered the Wallabies with their scrummaging. Paul Alo-Emile (born 22 December 1991) is a Samoan rugby union player. His regular playing position is prop. He plays for Stade Français Paris in the Top 14. Career Early playing Alo-Emile is of Samoan heritage, born in New Zealand he grew up in Brisbane, and attended Brisbane State High School. In 2006 he joined the Australian Rugby Union's National Talent Squad, and represented the Australian Schoolboys. Australian Club Championship Rugby Union
The Australian Club Championship is a rugby union challenge match between the Brisbane and Sydney club premiers. The fixture was played on a regular basis from 1982 to 1991 (inclusive) and again since 2007, and also on an ad hoc basis in various other years. The regular scheduling was initially abandoned in 1993 when the NSWRU insisted on playing each match at Concord Oval in Sydney, rather than on a rotating basis. The championship was revived when it was agreed that the winners of the 2006 premierships would play the challenge match as a curtain raiser to the following year's Queensland Reds and NSW Waratahs match in the Super 14 competition. The Sydney University Football Club, founded in 1863, is the oldest club now playing rugby union in Australia, although this date is disputed by historian Tom Hickie who argues that it was 1865. Sydney Uni was a member of the inaugural Sydney club competition in 1874, along with the Balmain RFC, Balmain Rugby Union Football Club, Newington College and The King's School, Sydney, The King's School. Brothers Rugby Club (formally Brothers Old Boys) is an Australian rugby union club based in Brisbane, Queensland. The name alludes to its beginnings as a rugby club founded by alumni of schools established by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. Brothers currently competes in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition against nine of the states best Rugby Union clubs.
