Stéphane Provost
Stéphane Provost (May 5, 1967 – April 22, 2005) was a French Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) linesman. Career Provost played as a defenceman prior to his officiating career, playing two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the Verdun Junior Canadiens and the Saint-Jean Castors between 1985 and 1987. He then worked as an official in the QMJHL from 1989 to 1994. Provost was hired by the NHL in September 1994 and officiated his first regular season game on January 25, 1995 between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning; his career included 695 regular season games. Death Provost was killed at 37 years of age in a road accident at approximately 3:30 a.m. Eastern Time while travelling on his motorcycle west on State Road 84 after hitting a tractor trailer. Alfonso Márquez
Alfonso Márquez (born April 12, 1972) is a Mexican umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB) who worked in the National League in 1999 and has worked throughout both major leagues since 2000. He was promoted to crew chief for the 2020 season, becoming the first full time Latino-born crew chief. Márquez wears uniform number 72, a number he shared with friend and National Hockey League linesman Stéphane Provost. Early years Márquez graduated from Fullerton Union High School in Orange County, California, in 1990. In baseball, the umpire is the person charged with referee, officiating the game, including beginning and ending the game, enforcing the rules of the game and the grounds, making judgment calls on plays, and handling the disciplinary actions. The term is often shortened to the colloquial form ump. They are also sometimes addressed as blue at lower levels due to the common color of the uniform worn by umpires. John D'Amico (ice Hockey)
John David D'Amico (September 21, 1937 – May 29, 2005) was a Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) linesman and later supervisor of officials. Early life and education A native of Toronto, D'Amico graduated from De La Salle College. Career D'Amico's NHL career began as a referee on October 12, 1964, when he was 27 years old. He refereed only 19 games before becoming a linesman. At the time of his retirement after the 1987 season, D'Amico was the last on-ice official active during the Original Six era. D'Amico's career included 1,689 regular season games, seven All-Star games, including the 1979 Challenge Cup and Rendez-vous '87, and 247 Stanley Cup playoff games, including 52 Stanley Cup Finals. 2004–05 NHL Lockout
The 2004–05 NHL lockout was a labor lockout that resulted in the cancellation of the National Hockey League (NHL) season, which would have been its 88th season of play. The main dispute was the league's desire to implement a salary cap to limit expenditure on player salaries, which was opposed by the NHL Players Association (NHLPA), the players' labor union, who proposed an alternative system of revenue sharing. Attempts at collective bargaining before the season began were unsuccessful. The lockout was initiated on September 16, 2004, one day after the expiration of the existing collective bargaining agreement (CBA), which itself had been the result of the 1994–95 lockout. 2004–05 QMJHL Season
The 2004–05 QMJHL season was the 36th season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The QMJHL inaugurates the Guy Carbonneau Trophy, awarded to the league's "Best Defensive Forward," and the Kevin Lowe Trophy, awarded to the league's "Best Defensive Defenceman." Sixteen teams played 70 games each in the schedule. Sidney Crosby was the league's top scorer, regular season MVP, Playoff leading scorer, and playoff MVP. Crosby helped lead the Rimouski Océanic on a 28-game unbeaten streak to close out the season, and finishing first overall in the regular season winning their second Jean Rougeau Trophy.
