Stotesbury Cup
The Stotesbury Cup Regatta, sponsored by the Schuylkill Navy, is the world's oldest and one of the largest high school rowing competitions. It is held annually in mid-May over a two-day period along the Schuylkill River near Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Competing crews come from schools all over North America, though most hail from the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. The regatta has many different events (31 in 2022) in which high school crews compete for various cups and trophies. Events vary by sex, age, weight category, number of rowers, and style of rowing (whether ''sweeping'' with one oar per rower or ''sculling'' with two oars per rower). The regatta takes its name from the main event, the Men's Senior Eight race, in which crews of eight oarsmen and one coxswain compete for the Stotesbury Cup. Stotesbury is a village in northwest Vernon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 18 at the 2010 census. History Stotesbury was platted in 1893 when the railroad was extended to that point. The village was named for E. T. Stotesbury, a railroad agent. A post office was established at Stotesbury in 1893, and remained in operation until 1985. In addition to the post office, Stotesbury also had a two story school. In 1990 the remaining portion of the building was demolished with only the foundation walls and the basement remaining. Stotesbury at one time had an operational black smith forge located near the railroad tracks and the coal yard. Geography Stotesbury is located at the intersection of Missouri routes D and V. The Missouri-Kansas state line is approximately 2.5 miles west and the Little Osage River flows past one-half mile north. Christian Brothers Academy (also known as CBA or "The Academy"), located in the Lincroft section of Middletown Township, New Jersey, is a private, all-boys preparatory school for grades nine to twelve, with a focus on Christian education. The school is run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, founded by St. Jean-Baptiste de La Salle. Christian Brothers Academy was originally a farm owned by the prominent Whitney family of New York City, and home to their renowned Greentree Stable. The land was eventually given to the Christian Brothers for the purpose of teaching. Mount Saint Joseph Academy (Flourtown, Pennsylvania)
Mount Saint Joseph Academy, commonly called The Mount, in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, is a Philadelphia-area all-female, Catholic, college preparatory school within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. It was founded in 1858 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The academy was originally located in Philadelphia on the grounds of what is now Chestnut Hill College. Originally a boarding school, the academy began accepting day students in 1911. In 1928, this all girls high school was the first Catholic school to be approved by the Middle States Association accrediting agency. Walt Whitman High School is a public high school in Bethesda, Maryland, United States. It is named in honor of American poet Walt Whitman. The school serves grades 9-12 for the Montgomery County Public Schools. History The school opened in the fall of 1962 with 1,418 students. Designed by local architectural firm McLeod, Ferrara & Ensign, it was built on 17 levels, with a center courtyard and a geodesic dome for its gymnasium.
