State Hockey Centre (South Australia)
The State Hockey Centre, currently known as MATE Stadium (formerly known as the Pines Stadium and Distinctive Homes Hockey Arena (2003–2009)), is a 4,000 capacity, government owned outdoor field hockey stadium located in Gepps Cross, a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It offers two international-standard wet hockey pitches which are used for both competition and training activities. It is the home to the Southern Hotshots and SA Suns in the Australian Hockey League. Features Pitch 1 has a 'TeamSports Surface - Auqaturf Evolution' surface and Pitch 2 has a 'STI - Poligras Olympia CoolPlus' surface. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Paul Snowden Lewis (born 1 November 1966 in Adelaide, Australia) is a former field hockey midfield player from Australia, who was a member of the Men's National Hockey Team. He twice won a medal at the Summer Olympics. In his youth, Paul played for Forestville Hockey Club in South Australia, and attended Unley High School Unley High School, located in Netherby, South Australia. Grant Schubert
Grant Schubert ( OAM) (born 1 August 1980 in Loxton, South Australia) is a field hockey striker from Australia, who won the gold medal with the Men's National Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He was named ''World Hockey Young Player of the Year'' by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in December 2003. Schubert now lives in Western Australia. Schubert was honoured as the most promising player at the 2003 Champions Trophy with nine goals in six matches. Earlier that year, on 9 July, he made his debut for ''The Kookaburras'' in a friendly match against Germany in Neuss. Craig Victory (born 3 February 1980 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a field hockey striker from Australia who played 102 international games for the Australia men's national field hockey team, the Kookaburras. He is a Commonwealth Games, World Cup and Champions Trophy Gold Medalist and was an Olympic Bronze Medalist with the Australia men's national field hockey team the Kookaburras at the 2000 in Sydney. Melody Cooper
Melody Cooper (née Rowe, born 16 March 1983) is a New Zealand field hockey player. She has played in the midfield and defence positions. She played club hockey in New Zealand and in South Australia before representing New Zealand at the 2012 London Olympics. Melody was captain of the SA Suns team that won the Australian Hockey League Championship in 2011.
