South Dakota Republican Party
The South Dakota Republican Party is the affiliate of the Republican Party in South Dakota. It is currently the dominant party in the state, controlling South Dakota's at-large U.S. House seat, both U.S. Senate seats, the governorship, and has supermajorities in both houses of the state legislature. Current elected officials The South Dakota Republican Party controls all ten statewide offices and holds majorities in the South Dakota Senate and the South Dakota House of Representatives. Dan Lederman
Dan Lederman (born November 25, 1972 in Waterloo, Iowa) is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the South Dakota Senate representing District 16 from January 11, 2011 until he resigned on March 30, 2015. Lederman served consecutively in the South Dakota Legislature from January 2009 until January 11, 2011 in the South Dakota House of Representatives District 16 seat. In February 2017, Lederman was elected State Chairman of the South Dakota Republican Party in the first contested party chair election in decades. In February 2019, Lederman was re-elected on an uncontested basis to another term of office as chair of the South Dakota Republican Party. South Dakota's At-large Congressional District
South Dakota's at-large congressional district is the sole congressional district for the state of South Dakota. Based on area, it is the fourth largest congressional district in the nation. The district is currently represented by Dusty Johnson. History The district was created when South Dakota achieved statehood on November 2, 1889, electing two members at-large (statewide). Following the 1910 Census a third seat was gained, with the legislature drawing three separate districts. The third district was eliminated after the 1930 Census. As a result of the redistricting cycle after the 1980 Census, the second seat was eliminated, creating a single at-large district. Since 1983, South Dakota has retained a single congressional district. Rich Sattgast
Richard L. Sattgast is an American politician who serves as the state auditor of South Dakota for the second time having served two terms previously (2003–2011). He formerly served as state treasurer (2011–2019). Early life and education Sattgast was born in Spearfish, South Dakota, graduating from Spearfish High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Black Hills State University and a master's degree from New Mexico Highlands University. Sattgast also served in the United States Army and in the South Dakota National Guard. Career Sattgast was elected state auditor in 2002, defeating Democrat Dick Butler with 52% of the vote. Larry Rhoden
Larry Rhoden (born February 5, 1959) is an American politician and businessman serving as the 39th lieutenant governor of South Dakota since 2019. A Republican, he previously served in both houses of the South Dakota Legislature. Early life Rhoden was born and raised on a farm and grew up attending church. After graduating high school, he served in the South Dakota National Guard from 1978 to 1985, carrying on a family legacy of military service that began in the Revolutionary War. While his children were young, he served as a church trustee and earned a seat on the local school board, and led the Board of Directors for the Cenex area. Lieutenant Governor Of South Dakota
The lieutenant governor of South Dakota is the second-ranking member of the executive branch of South Dakota state government and also serves as presiding officer of the South Dakota Senate. The lieutenant governor succeeds to the officer of governor if the office becomes vacant, and may also serve as acting governor if the governor is incapacitated or absent from the state.
