The Sooty Show
''The Sooty Show'' is a British children's television series, created by Harry Corbett, and produced for the BBC from 1955 to 1967, and then for ITV from 1968 until 1992. The show, part of the ''Sooty'' franchise, focuses on the mischievous adventures of the glove puppet character of the same name, alongside his friends Sweep and Soo, and their handler. Between 1955 and 1975, Corbett presented the programme until his retirement, before it was taken over by his son Matthew Corbett. It also co-starred Marjorie Corbett as the voice of Soo from the character's debut in 1964, until her retirement in 1981, whereupon Brenda Longman replaced her. ''Sooty'' is a British children's slapstick television series that has aired on CITV since September 2011. It is the fifth such incarnation of the series to feature the titular character Sooty, and the first since the last series ended in 2004, it is also the first since presenter Richard Cadell bought the licensing rights to the brand in 2008. ''Sooty & Co.'' is a British children's television series, created and presented by Matthew Corbett, produced by Granada Television, and aired on ITV from 6 September 1993 to 14 December 1998. It is the sequel to the children's programme ''The Sooty Show'', which had concluded in 1992, retaining the sitcom format, and focuses on the misadventures of Sooty, Sweep, Soo, Little Cousin Scampi, and Matthew as they try to run a bric a brac shop in Manchester. Episodes were mainly filmed at Granada's main studio in Manchester and around the city, though some episodes were filmed outside of Manchester, including within Scotland, Ireland, and Spain. Sooty's Amazing Adventures
''Sooty's Amazing Adventures'' is a short-lived animated spin off series of the popular puppet show ''Sooty''. In this incarnation of the famous bear, he is a full bodied bear free from the puppeteer's hand. Setting and location The gang live in the Fanshawe Theatre in an unknown English coastal town. The four embark on their adventures through a trapdoor located on the theatre's main stage which would take them to various places and times. However more often than not the trapdoor fails to send them to their desired location. Main Characters Sooty - A quiet and smart bear who is the undisputed leader of the gang. The programme is the fourth programme in the franchise of the same name, and replaced '' Sooty Heights'', with Cadell supported by co-presenter Vicki Lee Taylor, and Brenda Longman during the first series, and Sheila Clark for the remaining series. ''Sooty Heights'' is a British children's television series, created and presented by Richard Cadell, co-stars Liana Bridges and Brenda Longman, produced by Granada Television, and aired on ITV Network from 27 September 1999 to 11 December 2000. It is the successor to the children's series '' Sooty & Co'' and the first programme to feature Cadell as Sooty's right-hand man (and subsequent owner), following the retirement of Matthew Corbett in 1998. The show focuses on Sooty, Sweep, Soo, Scampi, Richard, and Liana running their new home and business place, the Sooty Heights hotel. Harry Corbett
Harry Corbett OBE (28 January 1918 – 17 August 1989) was an English magician, puppeteer and television presenter. He was best known as the creator of the glove puppet character Sooty in 1952. Biography Corbett was born in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, to James W. Corbett, a coal miner, and his wife Florence, née Ramsden. He had a younger brother, Les, a saxophonist, who he played duets with, and who would sometimes appear on ''The Sooty Show''. Deafness in one ear precluded him from pursuing his musical ambitions to become a concert pianist, although he played the piano in the Guiseley fish and chip restaurant owned by his mother's brother Harry Ramsden. His parents had a fish and chip business in Guiseley called Springfield, which remains open and is now known as Midgley's. Matthew Corbett
Peter Graham "Matthew" Corbett (born 28 March 1948) is an English actor, singer, comedian, magician, puppeteer, television presenter and writer, best known for presenting ''The Sooty Show'' and later '' Sooty and Co''. He is the son of Sooty's creator, Harry Corbett, and took over the show from his father in 1976. He retired in 1998. Early life Corbett was born in Guiseley, West Riding of Yorkshire, on 28 March 1948. In the late 1960s he had to choose another name when joining Equity, as there was already a Peter Corbett registered. He kept his surname and chose to go by the first name Matthew, retaining the name throughout his television career. Richard Cadell
Richard Cadell (born 23 March 1969) is a British illusionist, puppeteer, actor and screenwriter, best known for being the in-vision presenter and the hand of puppet Sooty since succeeding Matthew Corbett in 1998. He is a Gold Star Member of the Inner Magic Circle and Past President of the British section of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He once owned Brean Leisure Park in the coastal village of Brean in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, from 2002–2014. He also works as a consultant for TV and stage productions. Liana Bridges
Liana Bridges (born 25 December 1969) is a British actress and presenter. Best known for co-presenting ''Sooty & Co.'' with Matthew Corbett and Richard Cadell in 1998, and ''Sooty Heights'' with Richard Cadell from 1999 to 2000. When ''Sooty Heights'' ended, her place as co-presenter was taken by Vicki Lee Taylor in the replacement series, ''Sooty (2001 TV series), Sooty''.
