Smooth Stack
In algebraic geometry, given algebraic stacks p: X \to C, \, q: Y \to C over a base category ''C'', a morphism f: X \to Y of algebraic stacks is a functor such that q \circ f = p. More generally, one can also consider a morphism between prestacks; (a stackification would be an example.) Types One particular important example is a presentation of a stack, which is widely used in the study of stacks. An algebraic stack ''X'' is said to be smooth of dimension ''n'' - ''j'' if there is a smooth presentation U \to X of relative dimension ''j'' for some smooth scheme ''U'' of dimension ''n''. Algebraic Geometry
Algebraic geometry is a branch of mathematics, classically studying zeros of multivariate polynomials. Modern algebraic geometry is based on the use of abstract algebraic techniques, mainly from commutative algebra, for solving geometrical problems about these sets of zeros. The fundamental objects of study in algebraic geometry are algebraic varieties, which are geometric manifestations of solutions of systems of polynomial equations. Examples of the most studied classes of algebraic varieties are: plane algebraic curves, which include lines, circles, parabolas, ellipses, hyperbolas, cubic curves like elliptic curves, and quartic curves like lemniscates and Cassini ovals. Algebraic Stack
In mathematics, an algebraic stack is a vast generalization of algebraic spaces, or schemes, which are foundational for studying moduli theory. Many moduli spaces are constructed using techniques specific to algebraic stacks, such as Artin's representability theorem, which is used to construct the moduli space of pointed algebraic curves \mathcal_ and the moduli stack of elliptic curves. Originally, they were introduced by Grothendieck to keep track of automorphisms on moduli spaces, a technique which allows for treating these moduli spaces as if their underlying schemes or algebraic spaces are smooth. But, through many generalizations the notion of algebraic stacks was finally discovered by Michael Artin. Prestack
In algebraic geometry, a prestack ''F'' over a category ''C'' equipped with some Grothendieck topology is a category together with a functor ''p'': ''F'' → ''C'' satisfying a certain lifting condition and such that (when the fibers are groupoids) locally isomorphic objects are isomorphic. A stack is a prestack with effective descents, meaning local objects may be patched together to become a global object. Prestacks that appear in nature are typically stacks but some naively constructed prestacks (e.g., groupoid scheme or the prestack of projectivized vector bundles) may not be stacks.
