Slab City, Wisconsin is an unincorporated community in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States, in the town of Hartland. Niland, California
Niland (formerly Old Beach, Imperial Junction, and Hobgood) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Imperial County, California, United States. The town is located north of Calipatria, southeast of the Salton Sea. The population was 1,006 at the 2010 census, down from 1,143 in 2000. The 2020 census reported Niland's population at 756. By June 2020, however, after a major fire, the estimated population had diminished to 500. It is part of the El Centro, California Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The Old Beach post office operated from 1905 to 1907. The Imperial Junction post office opened in 1910, changed its name to Hobgood in 1913, and to Niland in 1914. The name Hobgood honors pioneer Richard H. Hobgood. The name Niland was coined by the Imperial Farm Lands Association from "Nile Land", a commendatory name for the supposed fertility of the place. There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. Shawano County (pronounced SHAW-no) (originally Shawanaw County) is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,881. Its county seat is Shawano. Shawano County is included in the Shawano, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Green Bay-Shawano, WI Combined Statistical Area. Hartland is a town in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 825 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Slab City is located within the town. The unincorporated communities of Frazer Corners and Zachow are also located partially in the town. Hartland was established in 1859. Bonduel, Wisconsin
Bonduel is a village in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,478 at the 2010 census. History As founded, the community did not have an officially agreed upon name. Some early news reports called it Hartland Corners, presumably in reference to the surrounding town, named Hartland. The name Bonduel was not established for the community until an application for a post office was made in 1864, at which point "Hartland" was rejected as already being in use as a village name in Wisconsin. Therefore, the village was named Bonduel when the post office was created. The village is named after a Jesuit missionary, the Rev. Florimond Bonduel, who served Wisconsin parishes and who worked with the Menominee Indians, helping them settle on their newly created reservation in 1853. Bonduel incorporated as a village in 1916.
