Sir James Walker, 2nd Baronet
Sir James Robert Walker, 2nd Baronet, of Sand Hutton JP, DL (19 October 1829 – 12 June 1899) was a British Conservative politician. He was the son of James Walker, 1st Baronet and his first wife Mary Denison. Walker was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1851 and a Master of Arts in 1860. In 1883, he succeeded his father as baronet. Walker, who sometime served with the Yorkshire Hussars, was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Beverley between 1860 and 1865 and High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1888. He was a Deputy Lieutenant and justice of the peace of the North Riding as well as a justice of the peace of the East Riding of Yorkshire. On 23 June 1863, Walker married Louisa Susan Marlborough Heron-Maxwell, third daughter of Captain Sir John Heron-Maxwell, 6th Baronet at St James's Church, Piccadilly. They had nine children. Sand Hutton
Sand Hutton is a village and civil parish which forms the larger part of the Claxton and Sand Hutton grouped parish council, in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, about north-east of York. History The village is mentioned in the ''Domesday Book'' as ''Hottune'' in the ''Bulford hundred''. Before the Norman invasion the manor was shared between ''Sprot'' and ''Gospatric, son of Arnketil''. Afterwards they were split between the Crown and ''Hugh, son Baldric'' who installed ''Wulfbert of Hutton'' as lord of the manor. The latter part of the manor passed eventually to the Mowbray family until 1604 when the title became unused. William Belt
William John Belt (1826–1892) was an English barrister and antiquarian best known for his erratic behaviour in later life which was widely reported by popular newspapers for the amusement of their readers. Early life Belt was born on 12 June 1826 at 40 Great Ormond Street, Bloomsbury, the fifth son of Robert Belt, a barrister and commissioner of bankruptcy of Bossall Hall, in Yorkshire, and his second wife, Margaret Gordon (1785–1872), daughter of Captain Peter Gordon, a naval officer in the service of the East India Company. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. Christopher Sykes (1831 – 15 December 1898) was an English Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1865 to 1892. He enjoyed the "intimate friendship" of Edward VII when Prince of Wales and Alexandra of Denmark when Princess of Wales. Sykes was the second son of Sir Tatton Sykes, 4th Baronet, and his wife Mary Ann Foulis, daughter of Sir William Foulis, 7th Baronet. His father was a popular horse breeder who bred bloodstock; however, he was an authoritarian father who bullied his children. Sykes was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He began mixing with London's great and good and became a connoisseur of books, china and furniture. He was a Deputy Lieutenant and J.P. for the East Riding of Yorkshire. 1865 United Kingdom General Election
The 1865 United Kingdom general election saw the Liberals, led by Lord Palmerston, increase their large majority over the Earl of Derby's Conservatives to 80. The Whig Party changed its name to the Liberal Party between the previous election and this one. Palmerston died in October the same year and was succeeded by Lord John Russell as Prime Minister. Despite the Liberal majority, the party was divided by the issue of further parliamentary reform, and Russell resigned after being defeated in a vote in the House of Commons in 1866, leading to minority Conservative governments under Derby and then Benjamin Disraeli. This was the last United Kingdom general election until 2019 where a party increased its majority after having been returned to office at the previous election with a reduced majority.
