Simon Chandler
Simon Chandler (born 1953) is a British film, television and theatre actor. He often plays senior establishment figures such as Members of Parliament and senior civil servants. Biography Born in 1953 and educated at Bedford School, Chandler's acting career began in 1976. His first film role was as Private Simmonds in Richard Attenborough's 1977 film '' A Bridge Too Far'' and he provided the voice of Merry in Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated film adaptation of ''The Lord of the Rings''. His most prominent recent film work includes roles in ''Vera Drake'' (2004), '' Perfume: The Story of a Murderer'' (2006), ''The King's Speech'' (2010) and '' The Iron Lady'' (2011). He starred as Ade Rutter in the first series of ''House of Anubis'' and he has taken leading roles in ''Judge John Deed'' and other television dramas, as well as prominent theatre roles. ''Lace'' is an American television two-part miniseries, based on the 1982 bonkbuster novel of the same name by author Shirley Conran. The series aired on ABC on February 26–27, 1984. ''Dead Ernest'' is a 1982 UK TV supernatural sitcom set in heaven starring Andrew Sachs in the role of Ernest Springer. It was broadcast on ITV from 15 February 1982 and was the first sitcom made by the newly formed Central Television. Ernest wins half a million pounds on the football pools. Unfortunately he is killed by a blow to the head from a stray champagne bottle cork. He subsequently ascends to heaven. Although the authorities in heaven admit that his death was an administrative error (he had been scheduled to die in his bed in Lyme Regis in 2007), as his kidneys have already been donated he cannot go back down to earth. ''Brideshead Revisited'' is a 1981 British television serial starring Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. It was produced by Granada Television for broadcast by the ITV network. Most of the serial was directed by Charles Sturridge, with certain sequences directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who handled the initial phases of the production. The serial is an adaptation of the novel ''Brideshead Revisited'' (1945) by Evelyn Waugh. The ''BBC Television Shakespeare'' is a series of British television adaptations of Shakespeare's plays, the plays of William Shakespeare, created by Cedric Messina and broadcast by BBC Television. ''Jackanory'' is a BBC children's television series which was originally broadcast between 1965 and 1996. It was designed to stimulate an interest in reading. The show was first transmitted on 13 December 1965, and the first story was the fairy-tale "Cap-o'-Rushes" read by Lee Montague. ''Jackanory'' continued to be broadcast until 1996, with around 3,500 episodes in its 30-year run. The final story, ''The House at Pooh Corner'' by A. A. Milne, was read by Alan Bennett and broadcast on 24 March 1996. The show was briefly revived on 27 November 2006 for two one-off stories, and the format was revived as ''Jackanory Junior'' on CBeebies between 2007 and 2009. ''Lillie'' is a British television serial made by London Weekend Television for ITV and broadcast from 24 September to 17 December 1978. This period serial stars Francesca Annis in the title role of Lillie Langtry. ''The Duchess of Duke Street'' is a BBC television drama series set in London between the late 1800s and 1925.
