David Simkins
David Simkins is an American screenwriter and television producer. His first produced screenplay was for the film ''Adventures in Babysitting'' in 1987. He has written for and produced television shows such as '' Charmed'', '' Blade: The Series'', '' Dark Angel'' and '' Warehouse 13''. Early life and education Simkins grew up in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from Clay High School in 1977, where he was active in the production of the Junior Achievement-sponsored comedy series ''Beyond Our Control''. Simkins learned the basics of television production on the series, which was broadcast locally on WNDU-TV. After graduating high school, he studied film and broadcasting at The University of Iowa, earning a bachelor's degree in 1982. Eldred Simkins
Eldred Simkins (August 30, 1779 – November 17, 1831) was a U.S. Representative from South Carolina. Born in Edgefield, South Carolina, Simkins attended Moses Waddel's academy at Willington, Abbeville District, South Carolina, and graduated from South Carolina College (now the University of South Carolina) at Columbia. He attended Litchfield (Connecticut) Law School for three years. He was admitted to the bar in 1805 and commenced practice in Edgefield, South Carolina, in 1806. He served as member of the State house of representatives. He served in the State senate 1810–1812 and then as the 25th Lieutenant Governor of the State 1812–1814. Simkins was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Fifteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John C. Calhoun. Francis Butler Simkins
Francis Butler Simkins (December 14, 1897 – February 8, 1966) was a historian and president of the Southern Historical Association. He is best known for his highly praised history of the Reconstruction Era in South Carolina, that gave fair coverage to all sides, and for his widely used textbook ''The South, Old and New'' (1947) and his monographs on South Carolina history. He was a professor at Longwood College in Virginia, Simkins was a leading progressive in the 1920s and 1930s regarding race relations but became a defender of segregation in the 1950s and 1960s. Geoff Simkins (born 13 October 1948) is an English jazz musician who plays alto saxophone. Career Simkins started playing jazz in his early teens. His first instrument was drums, but he quickly changed to the alto saxophone. He turned professional in 1977. His early work included time with the Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra and the Temperance Seven, but his principal stylistic influences have been the American alto player Lee Konitz and tenor player Warne Marsh. Geoff has played at concerts, clubs and festivals in all parts of the UK, in Europe and beyond. Greg "Craola" Simkins (born February 28, 1975) is an American artist. Education and early life Greg Simkins was born in Torrance, California, Torrance, California, slightly south of Los Angeles. His artistic ambitions bloomed at age three with drawings inspired by cartoons and books. Some of these works, such as ''The Chronicles of Narnia'' by C.S. Lewis, ''The Phantom Tollbooth'' by Norton Juster, and ''Watership Down'' by Richard Adams, still find reference in his art. Modjeska Monteith Simkins (December 5, 1899 – April 5, 1992) was an important leader of African-American public health reform, social reform and the Civil Rights Movement in South Carolina. Early life Modjeska Monteith was born on December 5, 1899, in Columbia, South Carolina. Her father, Henry Clarence Montieth, worked as a brick mason, and her mother was Rachel Evelyn Hall. Modjeska lived on a farm near Columbia and attended elementary school, high school and Benedict College, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in 1921. The same year, she began teaching at Booker T. Washington High School. Because public schools in Columbia did not allow married women to teach, she was asked to resign when she married Andrew Whitfield Simkins in December 1929. In 1931, Simkins entered the field of public health as the Director of Negro Work for the South Carolina Tuberculosis Association, and became the state's only full-time, statewide African-American public health worker. Ormond Simkins (May 16, 1879 – December 4, 1921) was an American football and baseball player for the Sewanee Tigers of Sewanee: The University of the South. He was the son of William Stewart Simkins, who may have fired the first shot of the American Civil War. Early years Ormond was born on May 16, 1879 in Corsicana, Texas to William Stewart Simkins and Elizabeth Ware. Sewanee Ormond entered Sewanee in 1896 as a law student. He was valedictorian of the 1900 class. Baseball On the baseball team he was the catcher and when captain of the team in 1901, moved to shortstop. Football Simkins was an All-Southern fullback and punter of the Sewanee Tigers football team from 1896 to 1901. A stained glass window at Sewanee depicts Simkins handing a football to Henry D. Paris Simkins
Paris Simkins (1849-1930) was an African-American storekeeper, lawyer, minister, barber, and politician. Born into slavery, Simkins founded the Macedonia Baptist Church in Edgefield, South Carolina. A staunch Republican, he served in multiple governmental offices following the Civil War, including the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1872 to 1876. Biography Simkins was born in 1849 to slavery in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He was the son of his white owner, newspaper editor Arthur Simkins, and his enslaved mother. In 1866, he and another formerly enslaved man wrote to Major General Daniel Sickles. In that letter, the men appealed "to the Government for protection."
