Shekou
Shekou () is an area at the southern tip of Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. It faces Yuen Long, Hong Kong across the Shenzhen Bay. It has been designated as a Free Trade Zone by the government, alongside Qianhai, Hengqin and Nansha New Area. History The area was formerly a customs station of Bao'an County. On 31 January 1979, it became officially known as the Shekou Industrial Zone, developed solely by China Merchants Group of Hong Kong under Yuan Geng's leadership, earlier than the formation of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The event is chronicled in the Chinese ballad "The Story of Spring (春天的故事)". Shekou Cruise Center (), also known as the Shekou Ferry Terminal () and the Shekou Prince Bay Cruise Homeport, is a cruise terminal located in Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China. It runs direct ferry connections from Shenzhen to destinations across the Pearl River Delta. It is operated by China Merchants Shekou Ferry Terminal Service Co., Ltd. Ferry operations are operated by Xunlong Ferries, TurboJET and CKS Ferries. It can also handle cruise ships docking and replenishment, and is the first cruise terminal in China. Yuan Geng
Yuan Geng (; 23 April 1917 – 31 January 2016), born Ouyang Rushan, was a Chinese guerrilla fighter, war hero, spy, policy visionary, and serial entrepreneur on behalf of the Chinese state. He was an early proponent of China's reform and opening up, and went on to create Shekou Industrial Zone, China International Marine Containers, CSG Holding, China Merchants Bank, and Ping An Insurance. Early life and career Born in Bao'an County, now part of Shenzhen, he joined the Chinese Communist Party at age 21 and fought guerrilla operations against the Japanese occupation army in the Dongjiang (East River) Column of the CPC-led Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Aggression Guerrilla Force from March 1939. In 1942 he led a noted rescue operation of 800 people, and in 1944 became head of the Dongjiang Column's liaison division. Shekou Ferry Terminal (old)
Shekou Passenger Terminal () was a ferry port located in Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China. It allowed for direct ferry connections from Shenzhen to destinations across the Pearl River Delta. It was operated by China Merchant Shekou Ferry Terminal Service Co., Ltd. It was also known as Shekou Port Ferry Terminal. It was the waterway passenger transportation junction of Shenzhen. Ferry operations were operated by TurboJET and CKS Ferries. It has been replaced by the Shekou Cruise Center a.k.a. the new Shekou Ferry Terminal. Structure The terminal was built in 1981, and the coastline of the terminal was 1,025m long, there were 16 berths, and covered an area of 25,371m2. It had two ticket halls, three waiting halls (two for HK-Macau line, and one for domestic line) and six service counters for pre-check in. Minghua (), formerly MV ''Ancerville'', is a 1962 French liner later converted to a cruise ship. Now landlocked, she is the centerpiece of the Sea World development in Shekou, Shenzhen, China. Design and Construction She was designed as a liner for the Compagnie de Navigation Paquet (CNP) to serve their Marseille to Dakar, Senegal route and built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, St Nazaire. She had a yacht like streamed profile and a unique accommodation arrangement. Her cabins were mostly located forward and the public rooms aft. As built, she had three classes of accommodation, 171 first class, 342 second and 243 third class passengers. First and Second in cabins, Third class in 4 to 10 berth dormitories. Sea World () is a large tourist attraction and mall in Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. Its main attraction is the large ship, Minghua, in the center of the mall. Inside the boat, there is a hotel. Surrounding the boat, there are many restaurants and hotels including Allatore, Laofangzi, Tequilla Coyotes, baia burger, as well as many other Chinese and Japanese Restaurants.
