Secretariat Of The European Parliament
The Secretariat of the European Parliament is the administrative body of the European Parliament headed by a Secretary-General. It is based in the Kirchberg district of Luxembourg City and around the Brussels-Luxembourg Station in Brussels and employs 4000 officials. Secretary-General The Secretary General of the European Parliament is appointed by the Bureau of the Parliament. The post is responsible for administration and assisting the President, MEPs and the Parliaments bodies. He also deals with the day-to-day running of business and prepares basic reports for budget estimates. The Secretary General also has to sign, together with the President, all acts adopted by the Parliament and Council. Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PAUM), previously known as the ''Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly'' (''EMPA''), established in Naples on 3 December 2003 by decision of the Ministerial Conference of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, is an institution of the Barcelona Process. The EMPA opened its proceedings in Vouliagmeni ( Athens) on 22 and 23 March 2004. Location Of European Union Institutions
The seven institutions of the European Union (EU) are seated in four different cities, which are Brussels ( Belgium), Frankfurt am Main ( Germany), Luxembourg ( Luxembourg) and Strasbourg ( France), rather than being concentrated in a single capital city. All four were chosen, among various reasons, for their location halfway between France and Germany, the countries whose rivalry led to two World Wars and whose reconciliation paved the way for European integration. The EU agencies and other bodies are located all across the union, but usually not fixed in the treaties. Within the European Union, Directorates-General are departments with specific zones of responsibility, the equivalent of Ministry (government department), ministries at a national level. Anthony Teasdale
Anthony Teasdale, FAcSS, is the former (now retired) Director General of the Directorate-General for Parliamentary Research Services (DG EPRS) in the permanent administration of the European Parliament - or the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) as it is usually known - which serves members and committees as the in-house research centre and think tank of the Parliament. Teasdale is also a Visiting Professor in Practice at the European Institute of the London School of Economics (LSE) and co-author of ''The Penguin Companion to European Union'' (fourth edition, 880 pages, 2012). Education Teasdale studied at Balliol and Nuffield Colleges at Oxford University, where he earned first-class honours (BA) in PPE ( Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Politics. Luis Marco Aguiriano Nalda, known as Marco Aguiriano (born 27 January 1963) is a Spanish politician. He served as the 12th Secretary of State for the European Union of the Government of Spain from June 2018 to February 2020. Biography Born in Brussels, Aguiriano is the son of José Antonio Aguiriano, an important Socialist Party member from the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. Aguiriano holds a degree in international relations from the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International Studies and he continued his studies in Brussels, where he got a Master in European Studies in the Free University of Brussels. European Parliament In Luxembourg
The European Parliament's presence in Kirchberg, Luxembourg currently consists of the Parliament's secretariat, although the Parliament had held plenary sessions in the city for a brief period. History The provisional arrangement was reiterated on 8 April 1965 with the ''Decision on the provisional location of certain institutions and departments of the Communities''. This was following the Merger Treaty, which combined the executives of the three Communities into a single institutional structure. However, with the merged executives, the Commission and most departments were grouped together in Brussels, rather than Luxembourg City. To compensate Luxembourg for the loss, the agreement granted a city the right to host a number of bodies, including the Secretariat of the Assembly (now of the Parliament). Espace Léopold
The Espace Léopold (French; commonly used in English) or Leopoldruimte (Dutch; ) is the complex of parliament buildings in Brussels, Belgium, housing the European Parliament, a legislative chamber of the European Union (EU). It consists of a number of buildings, primarily the oldest, the Paul-Henri Spaak building, which houses the debating chamber and the President's offices, and the Altiero Spinelli building, which is the largest. The buildings are located in the European Quarter of Brussels, with construction starting in 1989. The complex is not the official seat of the European Parliament, which is the Louise Weiss building in Strasbourg, France, but as most of the other institutions of the European Union are in Brussels, the Parliament built the Brussels complex to be closer to its activities. The city of Strasbourg in France is the official seat of the European Parliament. The institution is legally bound by the decision of Edinburgh European Council of 11 and 12 December 1992 and Article 341 of the TFEU to meet there twelve times a year for a session, each of which usually takes about four days. The majority of work, however, takes place in Brussels, and some other work is undertaken in Luxembourg City (see Location of European Union institutions for more information). Jaume Duch Guillot, born 4 February 1962 in Barcelona, Spain, is the spokesperson of the European Parliament and the Director-General of Communication of the institution, a position he assumed in February 2017 after more than a decade as the Media Director. European Commission
The European Commission (EC) is the executive of the European Union (EU). It operates as a cabinet government, with 27 members of the Commission (informally known as "Commissioners") headed by a President. It includes an administrative body of about 32,000 European civil servants. The Commission is divided into departments known as Directorates-General (DGs) that can be likened to departments or ministries each headed by a Director-General who is responsible to a Commissioner. There is one member per member state, but members are bound by their oath of office to represent the general interest of the EU as a whole rather than their home state.
