Seaforth Railway Station
Seaforth railway station (officially Seaforth Station) is a suburban railway station in Gosnells, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Armadale line which is part of the Transperth network, and is southwest of Perth station and north of Armadale station. The station opened on 4 May 1948 with low level platforms. High level platforms were added in 1968. The station consists of two side platforms with a pedestrian level crossing. It is not fully accessible due to steep ramps and a lack of tactile paving. Services are operated by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the state government's Public Transport Authority. Peak services reach seven trains per hour in each direction, whilst off-peak services are four trains per hour. The station is one of the least used ones on the Transperth network, with just 136 boardings per day in October 2017. Albany Highway
Albany Highway links Western Australia's capital city Perth with its oldest settlement, Albany, on the state's south coast. The highway travels through the southern Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions, and is designated State Route 30 for most of its length. Outside of Perth the highway is predominately a sealed, single carriageway with regular overtaking lanes in some undulating areas. Albany Highway commences at The Causeway, a river crossing that connects to Perth's central business district. Armadale is a suburb of Perth within the City of Armadale, located on the south-eastern edge of the Perth metropolitan region. The major junction of the South Western and Albany Highways, which connect Perth with the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia respectively, is located within the suburb. A rail replacement bus service uses buses to replace a passenger train service on a temporary or permanent basis. The train service that is replaced may be of any type such as light rail, tram, streetcar, commuter rail, regional rail or heavy rail, intercity passenger service. Queens Park Railway Station, Perth
Queens Park Station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Armadale and Thornlie lines, 11.4 kilometres from Perth Station serving the suburb of Queens Park, Western Australia. History Queens Park Station opened in 1899 as Woodlupine, being renamed Queens Park on 16 April 1912. In 2012, the station was refurbished. Future As part of a Metronet project for several level crossing removals on the Armadale line, Queens Park Station will be rebuilt as an elevated station and the Hamilton Street and Wharf Street level crossings will be replaced with elevated rail. The planned design has Queens Park Station about closer to Hamilton Street, and the passenger car park underneath the elevated railway. Welshpool Railway Station, Perth
Welshpool railway station is on the Transperth network. It is located on the Armadale and Thornlie lines, 9.5 kilometres from Perth Station serving the suburbs of Welshpool and Bentley, Western Australia. The station will close on 20 November 2023 as part of a wider upgrade to the line. History Welshpool Station opened in 1889 as one of the original stations on the Armadale line. As early as the 1930s the location was concern for railway crossing safety. During the second world war, it was considered as a suitable location for a proposed munitions factory. Welshpool Station was planned to be closed under the original 1999 South West Metropolitan Railway Master Plan for the Armadale line branch route of the Mandurah line to enable the construction of a bridge over Welshpool Road instead of the current level crossing. Carlisle Railway Station, Perth
Carlisle railway station is a suburban railway station on the Transperth network in Western Australia. It is in the Perth suburbs of Carlisle and East Victoria Park, and is predominantly served by Thornlie line services, although Armadale line services also stop at the station at night and on Sundays. The station first opened in July 1912. It was known as Mint Street station at first, but it was renamed Victoria Park East station in October 1912 and to its present name in May 1919. It gained a station master in 1922, which lasted until 1971. Carlisle station had minor upgrades from 2002 to 2003 in preparation for the opening of the Thornlie line, which happened in 2005. It will undergo a complete rebuild as an elevated station from November 2023 to mid-2025 as part of the Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project to remove a nearby level crossing. Victoria Park railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Armadale and Thornlie lines, from Perth station serving the suburbs of Victoria Park, Lathlain and Burswood. History The original Victoria Park station opened in 1898. As part of improvements to the Armadale line following the announcement of the new Mandurah line alignment in August 2002, the rail alignment was upgraded including the introduction of grade separated rail crossings. The nearby Lathlain station was also demolished, in preparation for the construction of a new Victoria Park station nearby. Burswood railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Armadale line, 4.8 kilometres from Perth station serving the suburbs of Burswood, Lathlain and Rivervale. History The station was originally to be named Burrswood, however it became Burswood after being misspelt by the station sign's painters when it opened in 1893. Woop Woop
Woop Woop is an Australian and New Zealand term meaning a place that is a far distance from anything. Equivalent terms include "beyond the black stump" and "dingo woop woop" (also Australia), "the boondocks" (Southern United States) and "out in the sticks" or "the back of beyond" (UK). Etymology The term is said to have been derived from the nickname given to men who carried fleeces in shearing sheds, after the sound they made as they ran around. Grubba Grubba is also another version commonly found outback in the Kimberley. It was also the name of a sawmill near the town of Wilga in South West of Western Australia that was abandoned in 1984. The term was being used in the early 1900s to describe a mythical outback town. Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) was the operator of railway services in the state of Western Australia between October 1890 and June 2003. Gosnells Road Board
