Fopp (retailer)
Fopp is a British chain of retail shops selling music, film, books and other entertainment products in the United Kingdom. It is owned by HMV. History Origins The company was setup by Englishman Gordon Montgomery and began as a one-man stall in Glasgow, Scotland in 1981. The name "Fopp" comes from the title of a song by the Ohio Players on their 1975 album ''Honey''. By 2007, Fopp had expanded to become a chain of over 100 branches in the UK. With the demise of rival chain Music Zone, Fopp became the third largest specialist music retailer in the UK in terms of shop numbers (after HMV and Virgin Megastores). Administration Having taken over rival chain Music Zone following its fall into administration, Fopp found itself with cash flow problems. Screaming Life/Fopp
''Screaming Life/Fopp'' is a compilation album by the American rock band Soundgarden that combines their debut EPs in their entirety into a single release. It was originally released on May 11, 1990, through Sub Pop Records. Sub Pop later remastered and reissued the album on November 24, 2013. Overview The album combines the band's first two studio EPs: ''Screaming Life'' (1987) and ''Fopp'' (1988). It was released in 1990 by Sub Pop despite having been recorded in 1987-88, after Soundgarden's two subsequent full-length releases, ''Ultramega OK'' (1988) and ''Louder than Love'' (1989), had gained them considerable popularity. There are two cover songs on the album; "Swallow My Pride" is a Green River cover and "Fopp" is an Ohio Players cover. The 2013 re-issue contains an extra track, "Sub Pop Rock City," that is not present on the original release. "Sub Pop Rock City" was a track recorded during the same pre-''Ultramega OK'' era but previously only available on the ''Sub Pop 200 ...

''Fopp'' was later combined with the band's first EP, ''Screaming Life'' (1987), and released as the '' Screaming Life/Fopp'' compilation album in 1990. Recording The EP was recorded in 1988 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington, with producer Steve Fisk. Music and lyrics The EP contains one Soundgarden original, two covers, and a remix. Guitarist Kim Thayil said of the title track: "That's an Ohio Players song off of ''Honey''—I've had that album since I was in high school. We thought we could take the song and make it AC/DC or something. We'd take the power chords, turn up the volume and make it heavy. "Fopp" is a good song that needed to be given its due as a "kick-ass rock song!"Gilbert, Jeff. "Primecuts: Kim Thayil". ''Guitar School''. May 1994. The EP also contains a cover of the Green River song "Swallow My Pride" from the 1985 EP, '' Come on Down''. ...
