The Vancouver School Board (VSB; officially School District 39 Vancouver) is a school district based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The ''Vancouver Sun'', also known as the ''Sun'', is a daily broadsheet newspaper based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The newspaper is currently published by the Pacific Newspaper Group, a division of Postmedia Network. Published six days a week from Monday to Saturday, the ''Sun'' is the largest newspaper in western Canada by circulation. The newspaper was first published on 12 February 1912. David Oppenheimer
David Oppenheimer (January 1, 1834 – December 31, 1897) was a successful entrepreneur, the second mayor of Vancouver, British Columbia, and a National Historic Person of Canada. Early life David Oppenheimer was born in Blieskastel, then in the Kingdom of Bavaria, as one of ten children. His father, Salomon, was a merchant and vintner. David's mother, Johanna (Johanette) Kahn, died when he was four years old. His family was Jewish. He was educated at the Collegiate School of Frankfurt am Main. In 1848, after political upheaval and bad harvests, David Oppenheimer immigrated to New Orleans with his sister Caroline Oppenheimer Stern and four brothers: Charles (Carl), Meyer, Isaac and Godfrey (Gottfried). The Vancouver Learning Network (formerly Greater Vancouver Regional Correspondence School) is a public distance education secondary school headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Vancouver School Board. VLN is located at the John Oliver Secondary School in Vancouver, BC. It has its own hallway in which it can operate. In this hallway, there is the VLN office, book room, a multi-use classroom and a computer lab. Students are able to complete their work at one of the 15 computers in the lab. Sir William Van Horne Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Located at 5855 Ontario Street in School District 39 Vancouver, the school was built in 1911. Location It is located in the Oakridge neighborhood of Vancouver. Sir Alexander Mackenzie Elementary School is an elementary school in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The school is in School District 39 Vancouver. Located at 960 39th Ave E, the school was built in 1930. The school is named after the explorer Alexander Mackenzie. History Mackenzie was constructed in 1925 with an enrollment of about 25 to 30 students. In 1930 the official school was built and opened for grades K to 7. Students had to wear uniforms which were the school colours of blue and white. The girls had to go in through the east side and the boys had to go in through the west side. In 2005 it was the celebration of 75 years of teaching at Sir Alexander Mackenzie, an important occasion for the school.
