Salvador Sanfuentes
Salvador Sanfuentes (February 2, 1817 – July 17, 1860) was a Chilean lawyer, politician and poet. He served as Minister of Justice and Public Worship twice, and was elected as MP for the Association of Vallenar. Sanfuentes was appointed intendant of the Province of Valdivia in 1845 and being tasked with surveying its colonization potential of the territory. Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in the western part of South America. Vallenar
Vallenar is a city and commune in Atacama Region, Chile. It is the capital of the Huasco Province and is located in the valley of the Huasco River. Vallenar has 52,000 inhabitants. Its main activities are farming and mining. It was founded as San Ambrosio de Ballenary by Ambrose O'Higgins in 1789, after his birthplace in Ballynary in County Sligo, Ireland. Llanos de Challe National Park is located northwest of the city of Vallenar. Demographics According to the 2002 census by the National Statistics Institute, Vallenar had 48,040 inhabitants (23,284 men and 24,756 women). Bernhard Eunom Philippi
Bernhard Eunom Philippi (September 19, 1811, in Charlottenburg – September 6, 1852) was a German naturalist, explorer and colonization agent for Chile. He played an important role in the Chilean colonization of the Strait of Magellan and the German colonization of Valdivia, Osorno and Llanquihue. Biography His father was Johann Wilhelm Eberhard Philippi and his mother Maria Anna Krumwiede. In 1818 the family moved to Switzerland, where Rudolph and his brother Bernhard entered the school of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. Their brother Federico Philippi studied natural sciences and languages. Bernhard Philippi continued his education at the Technical College of Berlin between 1822 and 1830. He did nautical studies on a fellowship at the port of Danzig from 1831 to 1835. Philippi traveled to South America, where he settled in Ancud, Chile in 1838.
